I never pictured this. It was weird, I had pictured so many other scenarios, but this was never one of them. I had imagined him being a ruthless killer, luring innocent people into a cave and tearing their jugulars out and then taking that persons teeth and wearing them on a necklace. That's right; I know what he is.

Well, what he used to be. I had imagined a bloodthirsty killer, not a tamed house pet. All my life, I heard stories. People feared his red eyes, his sharp teeth, his strong hands that take what they want, his insane smile as he kills his prey. He was known to escape the inescapable. But they knew him by his un traceability, his leather duster, his nack for trouble. I wrapped the shadows around my body, to hide myself from him. Could this be possible? Could this monster really love and be loved now? As I sit observing this man who surely can't be the one I'm looking for, I observed his every step, his attire. He wore a button down shirt and tie, nice pants, fancy shoes, his hair was tied out of his face, he carried a briefcase and a part of me ached at the thought that their probably wasn't a heart or liver in it. I watched him climb into his black BMW and drive down the street. How human, I thought as I threw the shadows from myself.

I pulled a folded sheet of paper out of my back pocket. Carefully, so as not to rip the paper, I unfolded it. Around all the creases from having folded and unfolded it from years, was a charcoal drawing very closely resembling the man driving away in the black BMW. I ran my fingers lightly over the outline of his jaw. The artist who had drawn this for me got two parts very right: his eyes and his evil smile.

My own eyes turn red, I have finally found him.

I laugh, "You were always one step ahead of me...for 600 years. But you've fallen behind." I continue laughing to myself.

As I jump off the roof of the building I whisper, "I'm coming for you, Gabriel."

The wind carries my threat away.
