After we got married, Elliot and I continued to live like before. We focused on being parents to Emily, who was growing like a weed. Time sped by, and before we knew it, Emily was going to school every day. Elliot and I had a lot more time on our hands, so we tried to work more hours. As we worked more hours, we realized we didn't want to be spending all this time at work. We busted a couple that were using kidnapped children for financial gain, and that is when our lives started to change.
"We have another one in here, Elliot!" I called, as I entered another bedroom. Standing next to a box was a little girl, her body shaking as she saw me.
"Hey, sweetie. I'm Detective Benson... I'm here to help you," I cooed, as I took slow steps towards her. The little girl didn't move as I got to her side. I squatted down to her height and gently caressed her hair before slowly drawing her into my arms. She wrapped her arms around my neck and held on for dear life.
"Here, I'll take her," Fin said as he entered the room. I nodded slowly before holding the little girl away from my body. I looked into her tear-filled eyes and smiled softly.
"Honey, this is my friend Fin. He is going to get you help. Is it okay if you go with him?" I asked. She looked at Fin for a moment before nodding slowly. I kissed her forehead softly before passing her to Fin. Once he left, I did a quick sweep of the room.
As I was leaving, I decided to check the box real quick. I glanced in and swallowed hard when I saw a sleeping baby. I lifted him slowly into my arms and looked down at his tiny little face.
"Hey there, little man. I almost missed you," I whispered, as I slowly walked from the room. Just looking at this little guy made me smile. I hadn't held a baby since Faith passed, but it felt so normal.
"Alright, I think we found everyone," Elliot spoke, as I joined the crew in the living room.
"I found a straggler," I replied. Elliot turned to look at me, his eyes filled with confusion.
"Uh, is that a baby?" Elliot asked, and I nodded slowly.
"Yes, it is. We need to get him to the hospital, and definitely need to change his diaper."

I rode along in the ambulance with Baby Boy Doe, while Munch and Fin went to the precinct to question those we had arrested. Elliot followed the ambulance to the hospital so we could question the kids and comfort them in this very confusing time.
"How is he?" Elliot asked as he entered Baby Boy Doe's hospital room.
"He is sick and dehydrated. The last time the nurse came in, she said his breathing was getting better," I replied, as the small baby let out a whimper. I moved my hand slowly into the opening of the incubator and rubbed his chest.
Elliot rested his hand on my shoulder as I leaned closer to the incubator so the baby could hear me speak.
"It's okay, buddy. You are safe and have a full belly," I cooed.
"You do have a way with kids," Elliot spoke.
"That's good, especially since I have a kid," I replied, as I looked up at him. Elliot smiled before leaning down and kissing my lips softly.
Elliot sat beside me and we watched the baby sleep for a while. I couldn't help but feel such a strong connection to the little boy lying in front of me. He was going to have a long road ahead of him, and I wanted to help him through every road bump.
"El, he's gonna need a foster home after he gets out."
"I know, but I'm sure we can find him a good one," Elliot replied.
