Elliot picked up his mother the next morning while I took the kids to the park to get some energy out. While we were out of the house, Elliot would have quiet time to get his mother settled in her new space.
"Em and Noah! It's time to go!" I called, standing up from the bench I had been watching the kids from. Emily grabbed Noah's hand and led him to me, their faces flushed from playing.
"Can't we play longer, Momma?" Emily asked, as I lifted her baby brother up and headed to the van.
"No, baby. We have to go home. We can come back soon and play again," I replied, opening the back door to my van. Emily frowned as she climbed in and settled into her booster seat. I buckled in Noah before climbing into the driver's seat.
"Did you two have fun?" I asked, watching as Noah took a cracker from his older sister.
"Yeah, but I wanted to stay longer. Why do we have to go home?" Emily asked.
"We have to get home to Daddy and Bernie," I replied.
"She's staying with us now?" Emily asked, and I nodded as I pulled out of the park's parking lot.
"Yes, Em. Bernie is going to stay with us. It might not seem like it, but our home is more quiet than Kathy's. She'll be able to relax easier in our home."
"Will Bernie stay with us forever?" Emily asked, and I didn't know what to say. Bernie was dying, but we don't know how long she'd be healthy enough to live with us instead of being in the hospital.
"She'll be with us for a while. She's sick, so you and Noah will need to use your inside voices and we will have to take great care of her. Okay?"
"We'll be good, Momma. I promise!" Emily smiled.
As we continued home, I braked at a red light and grabbed my phone to call Elliot and tell him we were almost home. During the second I was turned, the screeching of tires were heard as my side of the van was hit.

"Noah, momma is here!" I choked out as I listened to Noah scream from the backseat. I didn't hear Emily make a noise and I couldn't move to check on them.
"Ma'am! Are you okay?" A man yelled through the passenger side window.
"N-No! My daughter isn't responding and my son is freaking out!" I exclaimed, tears running down my cheeks.
"I called an ambulance... Is there anything else I can do?" He asked as I swallowed hard. All I could taste was metal and knew there was blood in my mouth.
"Can you get my son out? He's only two and is scared... If he's not injured, please get him out," I whimpered, as I tried to listen for any noise from Emily.
"Yeah, I'll check on him. Stay still, your neck might be hurt."
I listened to the man talk to Noah and jerk the door open. He told me about a few cuts and bruises, but Noah was fine. He held my son close as he came back to the front passenger-side door.
"What are your names?" The man asked as I heard Emily moan from the backseat. My children shouldn't be in pain, but someone had to hit us and now they were.
"You are holding Noah. My daughter in the back is Emily, and I'm Olivia," I breathed, tears continuing down my cheeks.
"I can hear the sirens, Olivia. They'll help you soon. I promise."

I don't remember seeing the ambulances arriving. When I finally came to, I was lying in a hospital bed with a monitor wrapped around my belly and beeping came from the monitors next to me.
I tried to shift, but pain shot through my body. Moaning, I touched my face lightly and felt a few butterfly bandages over the cuts. I slowly moved my arm and hit the call button and waited motionless for a nurse to enter.
"How are you doing, Olivia?" The nurse asked with a soft smile.
"I'm in pain," I breathed.
"You will be in pain for a while. I can't give you more medicine because of your pregnancy," The nurse replied, as she checked my vitals.
"Where are my kids?"
"Your son was released to Captain Cragen. Emily is in surgery," she replied.
"How bad off is she?" I whispered, fear tightening my chest.
"She has a concussion and her leg is broken. They rushed her to surgery after triaging her. I do know she kept asking about you and her baby sister," She spoke.
"That sounds like my Emily. When she's out of surgery, can I see her?" I asked.
"Of course, Olivia. Is there anything else I can do for you?"
"I'd like to see my husband if he's here."

"Hey, baby," Elliot breathed, as he came into my room. I let out a small breath as I reached out to him.
"Hey," I replied, as Elliot came closer. He leaned down and kissed my forehead before running a hand over my belly.
"How are you and Serena doing?" He asked.
"I want to go home, El. I want to see Em," I whispered.
"I know you want to go home, but you need to stay the night. Tomorrow you can come home if everything is fine with you and Serena," Elliot replied.
"I really want to go home."
"Liv..." Elliot trailed off as I started to pout.
"The last time I was in a hospital, I was recovering from being kidnapped and raped. I don't want to be here," I whispered. Elliot ran his fingers through my hair before kissing my forehead lightly.
"I'll see what I can do."

Even if they wanted me to stay overnight, my therapist talked to the staff and due to my previous hospitalizations, it would be better for my mental health if I went home. Someone had to always be with me, but that was the plan to start. Cragen drove me and Noah home, and Maureen was going to take care of us while Elliot waited at the hospital for Emily to wake up.
I was sitting on the couch after a nap when my phone rang. I groaned as I leaned forward to get it, before answering it slowly.
"El?" I asked.
"Momma?" Emily's voice replied. I took a slow breath as I heard the hoarseness in my daughter's voice.
"Hi, Em. It's so nice to hear your voice. How are you feeling?" I asked.
"I don't feel good, Momma," Emily whimpered.
"I know, pumpkin. But the pain will go away and you'll be back up and running again in no time," I replied, trying to comfort my daughter.
"Momma, why did this have to happen?"
"I don't know, baby," I whispered.
