"Gabe, come get your bag." I called as I attempted to pick up my very messy apartment. After the divorce, I couldn't stay in that home anymore, too many memories.
"He's playing with his cars." Emily spoke, as she looked up from her phone for a few seconds.
"Can you get him?" I asked, as I walked into the kitchen.
"Why?" She asked, like she didn't remember that I had to drop them off at school.
"Emily, you are 15, you should know what school is by now." I replied, and she rolled her eyes, but I just brushed it off. I walked out of the kitchen and headed up stairs. I knocked on Serena's door before opening it.
"Rena, are you ready to go?" I asked my 11 year old, and she nodded, her blue eyes shinning.
"Yeah! I can't wait to start school again!" She exclaimed, and I smiled.
"Good. When you are done, go wait in the SUV." I replied, and she nodded. I left her room and knocked on Noah's door, where music was blasting, and I really wasn't liking being a mother to teenagers.
"What?" he asked, barely opening his door.
"Noah, come on, you have school. Get dressed." I replied, and he rolled his eyes.
"I'm 13. Don't tell me what to do." He replied, and I ran my hand over my face.
"Alright, let's make a deal. Don't be sassy and rude, and I won't ground you till your 40." I spoke, anger evident in my voice. He sighed and shut the door, and I went back to the last room where Gabe was.
I found my 6 year old sitting on the floor, making noises as he pushed the cars around on his floor. He didn't even notice me, and I was thankful because I could savor the moment. He looked so much like Elliot, but was for sure not as much of a jackass as Elliot was.
"Gabe, baby, are you ready for school?" I asked, and he looked up at me. He shook his head.
"Momma, can I go to work with you instead of school?" he asked, and I walked over and started to pick up a few of his random toys.
"Gabe, you have to go to school." I sighed, and he frowned.
"Please?" he questioned, and I shook my head.
"Lucy is going to drop you off at the precinct after school, then you can spend a few hours with me." I smiled.
"Did you make me lunch?" he asked, and I smiled and ruffled his hair.
"Peanut butter and jam sandwich." I spoke, and he smiled.
"I guess I can go." he replied.
---
After dropping the kids off at school, I went to the precinct. I was earlier than the rest, and headed back to my office. I had taken over for Cragen when he retired, and now I was a Sergeant.
"Hey stranger." A voice spoke as I turned on the lights in my office, and I nearly jumped at the voice.
"Ed, what are you doing here?" I questioned, as I walked over to my desk, that was covered with pictures of my kids.
"I wanted to bring breakfast to you, since you ditched me last night for dinner." He replied, and I let out a small sigh.
"I'm sorry about that, Ed. I had to get the kids ready for today." I replied, and he nodded as he walked around my desk and kissed my cheek.
"It's fine, Liv. Are all of them ready for school?" he asked, as he began to unpack our breakfast.
"Yeah, but Gabe was scared. It's his first year of real school, so I don't blame him." I replied, and he nodded.
We sat and talked for awhile, and I was really enjoying spending time with him. His phone rang towards the end, and he sighed.
"I have to go." He frowned after getting off the phone.
"It's fine, Ed. Go be a bad guy." I teased. He smiled softly and stood as I did. We cleaned up quickly before I walked him out. We stood near the entrance to the squad room, and he wrapped his arms around my waist, and pulled me close.
"Dinner tonight? I can bring over take out for you and the kids?" He offered, and I smiled softly.
"I hate to say this, but they are going to be cranky and exhausted. Raincheck?" I asked, and he nodded.
"Sure. I'll talk to you later." He mumbled, before placing his lips gently to mine. We pulled away after a few moments, and I hugged him.
"Have a good day." I spoke as he left. He waved and waited to get into the elevator. When it opened, Amanda and Nick got out. They saw both of us, and started to laugh, and I blushed.
"Have a nice date, Benson?" Amanda asked, and I rolled my eyes.
"Rollins, shut up." I replied, and they laughed again. I walked back to my office and went through my emails, waiting for a call.
---
Amanda came in around lunch time, a frown on her face.
"Liv, we have a case." She spoke, and I pushed my glasses down and looked at her.
"Where?" I questioned.
"The Stabler house in Queens."
"What?" I breathed, and she frowned.
"Domestic violence call. Kathy claimed that Elliot beat her, than raped her."
"Oh shit." I replied.
---
I walked through the halls of St. Michael's hospital, trying to find Kathy's room. I had a pounding headache from what was happening. I found her room and took a deep breath before knocking on the door. I opened it slowly, and looked in.
"Kathy, can I come in?" I questioned, and she nodded slowly, not noticing that it was me.
"Can you tell me what happened?" I asked, and she looked at me with a black eye.
"Olivia?" She questioned, and I nodded.
"Yeah. SVU got called." I replied, and she swallowed hard.
"No one needed to get involved. Elliot and I are fine." She lied.
"You have a black eye." I frowned.
"It was just rough sex." She replied, which made my skin crawl.
"Kathy, tell me what happened. You need help." I replied, and she swallowed hard.
"He's been drinking a lot, Olivia. He cries about not being there for you, and he is regretting getting married to me again. He just wants you." She mumbled.
"Alright. Tell me what he did to you."
"We got into a fight last night over you. He beat me up, then raped me." She whimpered.
"We will figure this out, Kathy. I promise."
"You are going to help me even after I was a bitch to you?" She asked.
"No one deserves to be treated like this. What happened between us is in the past, you need to be helped, to be saved."
