"Pink!" Noah exclaimed as he pointed at Emily's leg as she used crutches to get into the house.

"Yeah, sissy has a pink cast," I smiled, as I sat Noah on the couch beside Emily. He quickly snuggled into his big sister's side, and Emily drew him closer and kissed his messy brown curls.

"Are you sore, Momma?" Emily asked as I propped her leg up with a pillow.

"A little, but I don't mind. I'm just so glad all my kiddos are home with me," I replied softly.

"The cut?" Emily asked, pointing at the cut on my forehead. It was healing, but that meant it was red and noticeable.

"It'll heal, pumpkin. I'll scar, but I have a lot of those already. Another one won't be too bad," I replied softly. I leaned down and kissed my daughter's forehead before moving from the couch to where someone was knocking on the front door.

I swung the door open and felt my throat grow dry. Standing in front of me was a uniformed officer.

"H-Hello?" I asked, not knowing what else to say.

"Olivia?" He asked back, and I nodded.

"Yes, that's me. What happened?"

"I responded to a call of an unresponsive woman who collapsed. Your husband asked me to notify you his mother had collapsed and is being taken to the hospital."

I didn't know who to ask to watch the kids, so I called Casey and asked her to watch them. I left not long after she arrived and headed to the hospital. Per the officer, Elliot and Bernie were at lunch when she collapsed.

"Hi, I'm looking for Bernadette Stabler," I spoke as I approached the front desk in the emergency room. I had cried on the way here because even if I hadn't known Bernie for long, I cared about her.

"Relation?" The nurse asked.

"I'm her daughter-in-law. My husband brought her in after she collapsed," I replied, trying to remain calm.

"Yes, I see she was admitted. Take the D elevator to the fifth floor. Go to the nurse's station and someone will help you find her room," She replied.

"Thank you," I breathed as I stepped away and rushed towards the bank of elevators.

Once on the fifth floor, I didn't even get a foot from the elevator before a voice came over the intercom.

"Code Blue in room 269, Code Blue."

I took quick steps towards where the nurses were running into a room and I watched as my husband was pushed out. Tears slipped down my cheeks as Elliot rubbed his neck and slowly walked towards a bank of chairs. Before he sat, he looked over and saw where I stood.

"El," I breathed. Elliot made quick strides to where I stood and wrapped his arms tightly around my body.

"She's dying, Liv," Elliot sobbed as he clung to me.

"We can't give up on her," I whispered.

"I'm so scared to lose her," Elliot whimpered, his tears soaking into my shirt.

There was a lot of waiting after Bernie coded. I was exhausted and I eventually dozed off with my head on Elliot's shoulder. I slept for a few hours, only waking to Serena kicking and punching me. I smiled tiredly as I felt her moving the most she has since the accident.

"Why are you smiling?" Elliot huffed, offended by my smile.

"What? Uh, I'm sorry," I frowned, standing and stretching. I walked from my husband and to the formal waiting room where I bought myself a water.

"Liv," Elliot sighed.

"Serena hasn't been moving a ton since the accident, she's fine... but she was kicking me and punching me. It made me happy to feel her moving again," I frowned.

"Is she still moving?" Elliot asked, instead of apologizing for snapping at me.

"Yeah... We should go back to the chairs."

At one in the morning, a doctor came to where we sat. Elliot stood quickly, his tired expression matching the one on the doctor's face.

"Elliot Stabler?" He asked, and Elliot nodded quickly.

"Yes... How's my mom?"

"She's sleeping, which is very important right now. Your mother experienced a handful of seizures. When she collapsed, she developed a brain bleed. We took her to surgery and released any pressure it had caused while also being able to resect a few smaller tumors. She's doing okay right now, but is extremely weak," the doctor explained.

"Can I see her?"

"Not tonight. When she wakes, a nurse will call you. Until then, please head home. Your mother has a long road ahead of her and it's going to take a lot to take care of her."

"I'm not leaving," Elliot replied stubbornly. The doctor shrugged as he turned and walked away. Elliot sat back down, and I lowered myself back beside him.

"Do you want something to eat or drink?" I asked.

"Go home, Liv," Elliot spoke.

"If you are staying, I am as well."

"Go home for the sake of Serena," Elliot frowned. He wasn't worried about me and Serena, he just wanted to be alone.

"Please come home, El," I whispered, grabbing his hand gently in mine.

"Just go home, Liv. I'll call you once she wakes," He replied. I nodded slowly before leaning over and kissing his cheek softly.

"I love you," I spoke, but Elliot didn't respond as I stood and walked away.

It was too late for Casey to go home, so she slept on the couch and got up with the kids later that morning. The next few days after Bernie was hospitalized, I was alone with the kids. Elliot texted instead of calling me when Bernie woke up, but he didn't want me there. He told me to stay with the kids and he'd send me updates. He didn't send me updates, which was incredibly frustrating.

"Please put this on," I spoke, passing Emily her jacket. I squatted down in front of Noah and helped him slip his arms into the sleeves.

"Where are we going, Momma?" Emily asked, zipping up her jacket.

"I have an appointment at the hospital, so I thought we'd stop and see Daddy and Bernie while there," I replied.

"I miss Daddy," Emily spoke, as Noah danced around when he heard me mention his father.

"I do too, but he needs to be with Bernie."
