"Hey Grandma," Nate said as he kissed her cheek.
"Nathan, where were you all day?" She asked and he smiled.
"I was at the studio," he said and she nodded.
"That's right, you told me that," she said and he nodded, taking off his jacket.
"Grandma, this is my girlfriend Kelsey," he said as he turned to me.
"Nice to meet you," I said and she gave me a hug.
"So you're the girl Nathan's been talking about," she said and I smiled as he slid my jacket off my shoulders.
"All good things I hope," I said and she nodded, walking further into the house.
"Relax," Nate whispered as he took my hand in his, "it'll be fine." I took a deep breath as we walked in.
"Smells good, what is it?" Nate called as we walked into the living room.
"Just a roast," his grandma called from the kitchen as I looked around the small living room.
There was a couch on one side and a lazy boy on the other that his grandfather was sitting in watching the football game that was on.
Nate tugged at my hand gently followed him to sit down on the couch.
"How was your day Nathan?" His grandfather asked and Nate nodded.
"It was good," he said and his grandfather looked at us.
"And who's the lovely lady?" He asked and Nate smiled at me.
"This is Kelsey, the girl I told you I was seeing," he said and his grandfather nodded, pausing the game that was apparently a rerun.
"I see, you never mentioned how beautiful she was," his grandfather said and I blushed a little.
"I think I did but no description would do her justice," Nate said and I rolled my eyes, getting up.
"Ok well you have fun, I'm going to see if your grandma needs any help," I said and Nate nodded, kissing my hand.
"Need any help?" I asked and the tiny old lady tuned to face me. She had Nate's kind blue eyes and a happy smile on her face.
"Oh no thank you dear," she said and I nodded, leaning against the counter, my bracelets making noice when they bumped it.
"Are you sure because I'm a pretty handy person when it comes to cooking," I said and she pulled the roast out of the oven.
"If you don't mind, I'd appreciate some help with the carrots," she said and I nodded, picking up the knife she was just using to chop the carrots. "You can call me Ruth by the way," she said and I smiled as I chopped.

"So, you two are going to church tomorrow morning I presume?" Nate's grandfather asked as he got ready to eat and I glanced at Nate.
"I don't know, depends on what time we wake up and if Kelsey feels up to it," Nate said and his grandfather looked at me as I cut a small piece off the piece of roast I had.
"Are you sick?" His grandfather asked and I shook my head, looking up at him.
"No sir," I said and he sighed, taking a bite of his potatoes.
"Well why wouldn't you feel up to it?" He asked and I took a deep breath before eating the piece of roast I had on my fork.
"I-"
"A fan got a bit too enthusiastic while I was on tour," I said, cutting Nate off, and he looked at me. "Just a bit traumatized."
"I see, what were you going to say Nathan?" His grandfather asked and Nate shook his head, taking a bite of potatoes.
"Nope."

"I feel like I'm in the principals office," I whispered and Nate smiled.
"You're not, he's gonna love you when he gets to know you," he said and I buried my face in his chest. He chuckled and pet my hair before kissing my head and hugging me.
"Everything ok?" I heard Nate's grandfather asked and I jumped away but Nate kept a firm grip around me, holding me against him.
"Everything's fine, Kelsey's just tired," Nate said and his grandfather nodded before walking away.
"I'm gonna die," I said, stepping back and he just smiled and kissed me.
"You're not gonna die," he said after he pulled away and I sighed.
"If you say so."
"I say so," he said as he interlaced our fingers, "now come on, we're being very rude guests."

"So, Kelsey, tell us about yourself," Ruth said as we all sat in the living room drinking coffee.
"Well, what'd you wanna know?" I asked and she thought for a second.
"You said you make music like Nathan here," his grandfather said and I nodded slowly.
"Not exactly like Nate's but yea-yes I do make music for a living," I said and he looked at me suspiciously for a second.
"What kind of music do you make then?" Ruth asked, shooting Nate's grandfather a look.
"Nate raps, I sing," I said and she nodded.
"But Nathan sings as well," she said and I nodded.
"Yea but the style of music that he makes is rap music, hip hop, the style that I make is called alternative," I said and she nodded. I glanced over at Nate and he gave me a reassuring smile that made my heart melt.
"Alternative? Like native music?" Nate's grandfather asked and I shook my head.
"No, I think it's called that because they don't know where to put it," I said and he nodded slightly so I continued. "See the music that I make isn't quite contemporary but it's not rock either," I said and he took a sip of his coffee.
"I see," he said after an uncomfortably long silence. "So what would you call your music?" He asked and I thought for a second, going through all the songs that we've written and performed.
"I don't really know," I said and he nodded.
"Ok," he said and I smiled slightly.
"Where's your bathroom?" I asked suddenly and Ruth pointed to the hall that Nate and I here talking in.
"Third door to your left," she said and I nodded, getting up and walking away.
