Chapter Fourty One

"Sorry I'm late," I sighed as I sat down across from Nate. He shook his head and his mouth formed that beautiful half smile that still made my heart flutter.
"We didn't set a time," he said simply and I took a sip of my iced coffee nervously.
"So... what's up Nate?" I asked and he sighed, sitting forward and taking my hands off my cup and warming them in his.
"I'm moving to Chicago," he said after a minute of him rubbing my hands between his.
"What? Why?" I asked and he sighed again.
"The distance is too much for us, we need to be here together and work on us," he said and I nodded slowly, taking my hands from his and putting them on my lap.
"When did you decide this?" I asked after taking a minute to think very carefully about my response. Unfortunately, I couldn't stick to my original decision and continued talking, "was it before or after calling me a slut?"
"Kelsey, I-"
"No, Nathan," I said, cutting him off and standing up. "This time it's me who's done. I can't deal with your hot and cold any more so either get over whatever it is that's making you- I don't even know but don't bother moving here for us because as of last night, there is no us to fight for." And with that I left.

Short one but I don't know where I want to take this so for know, they broke up.
Nate moved to LA to pursue his music and Kelsey got together with Mark.
On Charlie's 16th birthday he was told who his real parents were and the circumstances under which he was conceived after which he decided to move in with Kelsey.

No matter how much she tried to love Mark, Kelsey never really got over Nate and he never got over her.
I suppose, in the end, they were supposed to be together but fate has a funny way of pulling people apart.
Especially those who belong together.
