Chapter Thirty Eight

"I need you to see
Why are you leaving me so alone?

"That's perfect," Jen said and I nodded, taking off the headphones and walking out of the booth.
"There you go Mike," I said as I sat down and he nodded, flicking a couple switches.
"Give me a second and you'll see I was right," he said and I nodded, taking a sip of coffee.
He played the bridge complete with guitars, drums, and keys before playing the original version and I nodded again.
"You were right," I said simply as the door opened.
"I'm back and I come bearing Chinese food," Nate called and everyone cheered as he set a bag down and started dealing out takeout. "Chicken fried rice, shrimp chow mien, and egg rolls for my love," he said as he placed takeout containers in front of me with that gorgeous smile on his lips and I blushed slightly.
"You're sweet," I said and he kissed my head before sitting down beside me and opening his dinner.
Over dinner we talked about bus arrangements and tour dates and filling Jonny in because he didn't know we were going back on tour after we finished the record.

Nate took me out to a movie before heading back to the hotel.
"You ready to talk?" I asked as I slowly took off my jacket and Nate sighed.
"Are you?" He asked and I shrugged as he sat down on the bed. He pat the bed beside him and I slowly sat down on the edge of the opposite side. "Who was he?" Nate asked after a minute of silence and I sighed quietly.
"His name is Ben, we were engaged to be married," I said and he nodded.
"And?" He prompted and I cleared my throat.
"And one night we went to a party and I got waisted out of my mind," I said and he got up, walked over to me, and knelt down in front of me, taking my hands in his.
"And?" He whispered and I took a deep breath.
"And I wouldn't have sex with him sober so I guess he thought it would be ok to-" I stopped talking and he nodded, pulling me down into a tight hug as I cried.
"You're ok," he whispered, "you're safe now."
"Am I?" I asked, pulling away and wiping my face, and he looked at me questioningly.
"W-what?" He asked and I sighed.
"That's why I couldn't sleep the other night, I- I don't feel safe around you Nathan!" I blurted out and he let me go, starring at me in disbelief.
"You- I-" he stuttered and I wiped my face again. "Kelsey...what?" He asked, sitting down and leaning on the wall.
"I couldn't sleep the other night because last time I fell asleep in your arms I was in the hospital for a month," I said and he just looked at me. "Please say something."
