Jenny’s POV
The next couple days after my break up with Harry seem to go by agonizingly slow. Niall and Sarah have been really helpful with helping me cope with the hole in my heart. I try to fill the time with hanging out with them so I don’t have the time to think about that Harry is with her, the traitor. I can’t even bring myself to say her name anymore.
Luckily for me, this is Homecoming weekend so there’s a lot more going on than usual. Niall decided we should go to the Homecoming musical which is a long tradition. I try my best to dress up, but I can’t find any reason to look cute, so I just dress plainly when I leave the room. I haven’t seen Callie since the breakup which I’m thankful for because a cat fight would’ve happened if that was the case.
I walk downstairs to the lobby and I see Niall with a cute brunette. She’s wearing a pair of black nerdy glasses and she has on simple dress pants and a cute grey top that has sleeves that just touch her elbows. As soon as Niall sees me, he gives me a big hug and I embrace him back. “It’s good to see you, Jenny. This is Cara by the way. She’s in Theta Mu with Zayn.”
Cara and I shake hands. “It’s good to meet you. I’m sorry about what happened to you. I hope we can be good friends,” She said cheerfully. Thanks goodness she’s not in Callie’s club or my rage may pour out again. I fake a smile since I’m still torn and bitter over what has happened, but Cara seems similar to me so we should get along.
“Thanks. It’s good to meet you.” I said with the cheeriest voice I can pull off which is currently a soft grunt.
“I guess we should get going. The musical starts in twenty minutes.” Niall said. I nodded and we left as a group of three.
“So did y’all meet?” I said trying to distract myself from my somber thoughts that have invaded my entire thought process recently.
“I met Niall through Zayn actually. Zayn took all the pledges with him and we watched the Joust of the Cavaliers. I met Niall after he won and we just talked a couple times since then,” Cara said happily. I’m watching both of them and I can definitely tell Niall thinks she’s pretty cute. Cara, on the other hand, I’ll need to watch more carefully.
“That’s fun. I wish I could’ve been there to have seen it. I heard it was quite entertaining.” I said cheekily. I’m glad Niall brought Cara here. Maybe the more we talk non-Harry things, the more I should cheer up for now.
“It was very interesting. Niall was pretty good. I thought he was pretty good with that sack of potatoes though,” Cara winked at him and I swear Niall’s cheeks have gone from a light pink to cherry red.
“Ah yes, we’re taught how to carry those professionally in Ireland,” Niall joked. “I could say the gods of leprechauns were with me on that one.”
I giggle and so does Cara. “So where are you from, Cara?”
“I’m from Orlando, Florida.” Cara said punctually. “I came for the small town vibe and atmosphere mostly. Everyone is so friendly here.”
“Almost too friendly,” I joked bitterly. Niall raised his eyebrows and Cara is laughing at my joke.
“That’s a good one,” Cara told me. We slowly join the long line to go into the Barchild Auditorium which is the biggest auditorium on campus and the one I went into to do orientation. There are all kinds of people here. Surprisingly most of the people here are at least 45 years old. I guess alumni love coming back to the campus to see what all new is going on.
