Niall’s POV
“What are we watching?” Cara asked confused. I shook my head in pity.
“Football, the best sport on Earth,” I told her. “It’s a shame most Americans don’t appreciate the passion and love people around the world have for football,”
“It’s way better than whatever you people call football,” Louis remarked. The other people sitting us surrounding the screen were Liam, Sarah, and Zayn. Jenny had a massive project due tonight, so she was not going to come. I am cuddling with Cara while Liam cuddles with Sarah, and the other two blokes are sitting next to each other debating the strategies used by the players.
“The point is to get the ball into one of the nets, right?” Cara asked.
“Basically, but there’s a lot more to it than just scoring,” I answered, “But I won’t bore with details. I’m just you’re even willing to get up this early on a weekend day to watch it with me,”
“No problem,” Cara told me. “I’m not really into sports, but I’m glad there are people like you who value them. I really don’t mind, it’s nice to be with you when you are watching something you love,”
“Thanks, that’s mean a lot to me,” I told her. “Most of the girlfriends I had back home didn’t like watching the game with me, but I’m glad you do,”
“Who are watching by the way?” Cara asked me.
“Reading vs. Doncaster, that’s why Louis is literally glued to the screen,” I teased to her. I looked other to him and you can tell he couldn’t focus on anything else but the game. Occasionally, he would throw up a curse when Doncaster played bad, but he knew it was early morning here, so he tried to not scream at the TV.
“Are they good?” She asked me.
“Who? Louis’ Team?” She nodded her head, “They’re all right, could be better,” Louis glared at me, but honestly, I thought I was sugarcoating the truth.
“It looks they’re holding up though,” Cara nodded to the screen. The score right now was 1-0 with Reading winning.
“Yeah, they are playing good defense,” I told her, “I wish you could see my team on TV. They’re the Derby Rams and I love them,”
“Is that the team you grew up watching?” She asked me.
“Yeah, we’d always watch them from back home in Ireland. I always look forward to the games,” I told her.
“Did you ever go to some of their games?” She asked me.
“Yeah, to several home games, in fact, I went to one in London, and Liam was also there. It was before we met at the school we went to together,” I told her.
“Wow, that’s pretty cool, it’s amazing how interconnected our lives can be,” Cara observed. I smiled back and decided to stop talking so I can focus on the game.
“So if you two did not watch football what did you watch?” Liam asked, “I mean watch other sports than football, but I watch more of football than anything else. I honestly do not know how I would spend most of my childhood if it wasn’t for football,”
