Jenny’s POV

The club secretary slowly counts all the girls in the meetings to be sure everyone is accounted for in this meeting.  All of us seat quietly while we wait for the president to start making announcements for the meeting.  These meetings were always fun and we just used the time to get to know each other better and become closer friends to the point of being sisters almost.  All I can hear is the small sounds of tapping feet and pens as we wait for the meeting to start.

Finally, I hear someone clear their throat and I see the president stand up after a couple minutes, “Beauties!  Today is a very big day!  I would like to announce our formal is two weeks from this Friday and the theme for this year will be a Royal Ball!”  Several girls cheered and clapped at the announcement.  I, on the other hand, find myself instantly depressed over the news.

“Everyone is encouraged their ‘knight in shining armor’ or their lovely prince for a formal event where we will have a meal and then ballroom dancing afterwards.  There will be a violinist and pianist there to provide music so I am very excited about this event.  We’ll need ten dollars for the t-shirt of the event, but beyond that just bring your date and have fun with us!  Any more questions?”

“Is it here on campus?” My friend Elizabeth asked her.  The president’s face lit up.

“Yes, it is.  We’re saving for an off campus event next semester, so it will be at the Kite Chapel.  That’s the room that overlooks all of the main campus.  It should be lovely at night with the lights on by then,” The president added.  I keep hearing about the lights that will come on during the break.  Supposedly, the whole campus gets lit up for the holiday season and I’m curious to see what this look like.  It sounds like a good date if I was dating right now.

Well, I’m seeing Jake this weekend, but I’m not even sure if that’s going to work out just yet.  I’m still mad about Harry, but I’m not crying every single day over it anymore, so I consider that progress.  I’m hoping that that chapter is no longer a part of my life and one day we will be just friends.  No romance, no trouble, and no more grudges are what I hope for.

I understand most of the problems are coming from my end, but it just takes time and I feel I have not had enough time to get over it just yet.  I had gotten to the point where I might have said I had loved him, but to think he was there and I wasn’t even his first option…that hurts.  It hurts immensely.  My thoughts are broken up when Elizabeth starts talking to me after all the questions about the ball are over.

“Are you looking forward to the formal?” She asked me.  I blink a few times and I finally registered her questions.

“Yeah, I probably won’t bring anyone, but I’m definitely going,” I told her.  An evening with my club sisters does sound like fun even if boys will be there.

“Same here, we could be each other’s date,” Elizabeth teased.

“No, you should ask someone, dear.  I’m sure men would come crawling to you if you told them how you needed them to be a knight in shining armor,” I winked at her and I can see her blushing.  Yep, she has a guy on her mind and he needs to be asked.

“Uh, the guy I want to ask probably doesn’t even know that I like him though,” Elizabeth said nervously.

“All the more to ask him,” I told her. “This gives you a great excuse to hang out with him all while not coming off as a date since it is an event.  Think of this as an event to get accustomed to him,” I do admit I might consider asking Jake, but I’m not ready to bring him to something like this.  I would rather just talk to my friends.
