A Ball With No Prince
Jenny’s POV
I hear knocking from the bathroom where I’m applying last minute makeup for tonight’s Royal Ball at Crystal Chapel which is on campus. It should be really pretty since a giant glass wall faces towards the Park that is lit up right now with beautiful lights. It’s the fanciest venue on all of campus and my club didn’t want to do something too fancy for this event, so it was the best thing they could up with.
Some of the girls threw a fit, but personally, I don’t mind. I know next semester we’re doing a Comic-Con based function, so I hope we go all out on that. The knocking gets louder, so I pause in my work to answer the door to Sarah’s room (since I still don’t live in my room) and I see Elizabeth and we both gasp at each other. Elizabeth is wearing a turquoise long gown sprinkled with rhinestones. Her hair is done into an up do with small curls still loose. “Jenny, you look amazing! It’s so sad you don’t have a date,” Elizabeth started.
I blushed at her words and replied my thanks. I’m not wearing the prettiest dress I have, but I still like it. I’m wearing a plum dress that has the giant skirt like they have in all the royal balls in movies. Since I was alone in preparations, I stuck with simple makeup and a single braid that went down just a few inches down my back. “You look gorgeous too, Beth,” I answered back. “Who needs dates anyway? I think there is absolutely nothing going solo to a ball.”
“You have a point,” she answered back. She offered her arms and joined arms as we walked slowly to the Legacy Building where Crystal Chapel was located. “So how come you didn’t ask that one guy you told me about? Is his name…Jake?”
“Yeah, it is,” I replied indifferently. “I don’t know. I mean we have kissed already, but I was only doing that because I happen to see Harry staring at us. I mean I like him. I just wasn’t ready to ask him on a date like this. We’re not exactly dating anyway; we’ve just had some deep conversations since he’s been helping deal with my douchebag of an ex-boyfriend.”
Elizabeth gave me a weird look like she didn’t quite understand my logic, but she decided to not push the topic any further. “But you and Harry have reconciled a little bit, right?”
“In a way. I wouldn’t go that far. He still has to break up with the traitor first before I would call him mostly forgiven. He has informed me that he will break up with her after this weekend, so fingers crossed he’ll stay good to his word,” I crossed my fingers as I said it because some days I wish Harry was still in my life, but never at the expense of having to deal with Callie.
Elizabeth simply nodded in approval. I really should hang out with Elizabeth more. We really only talk anymore after club meetings and those typically happen only once every two weeks. She’s just like Sarah that in the need, she just wants what’s best for her friends and I admire that. After a few minutes, we finally walked inside the Legacy Lobby.
The lobby has two giant Christmas trees both at least 20 feet tall and the giant staircase provide great scenery for photos. The waterfalls at the side and the classical music overhead provide a relaxed, but sophisticated feel to the giant area with a hotel check-in area to boot. The grand piano sadly remains locked as most of my club is here with dates taking photos. Elizabeth and I decided to wait until 30 minutes before photo time ends, so we could get a few quick photos before the dinner.
