An Interview with Jewel Van Hanen (The Scavenger Hunt)

Hello, Everyone!

My name is Claire (@ClaireKann) and this is my first time participating in a Wattpad Block Party. I feel so honored to be here—extra special thank you to Kelly Anne for including me!

I haven't been around Wattpad long, about a year or so, but it's been an amazing experience so far. I'm a lover and writer of paranormal/adventure romance which I post here and on Radish. My debut novel, LET'S TALK ABOUT LOVE, will be published in January 2018 with Swoon Reads/Macmillan.

Today, I've decided to share a very special interview with Jewel Van Hanen, creator of The Scavenger's Initiative from my novel, THE SCAVENGER HUNT.

***

INTERVIEWER: Jewel, you've recently announced your intentions to release footage for a new game you recently hosted. What can you tell us about it?

Jewel Van Hanen: It's called Trial and Punishment. And whatever you think that means, you're probably wrong. No one has seen a game like this before.

INTERVIEWER: With an intriguing title like that I think everyone is curious if it will be anything like The Scavenger Hunt. Considering its predecessor's worldwide success, do you feel any pressure to ensure that this new game is a hit?

JVH: I never repeat myself. Of course, there will be some similarities and some familiar faces, but it's a whole new world of obscene cash prizes, secrets, and lies. Get rich, tell the truth, shame the devil, and all that.

And I'm Jewel Van Hanen. Pressure bows to me.

INTERVIEWER: Could you tells us more about the "familiar faces" viewers can expect to see?

JVH: Almost everyone from the original game has agreed to return.

INTERVIEWER: Almost? Does that include the notoriously private Ethan and Olive? I think it's safe to say viewers fell in love with them and their romance almost as much as they did with each other.

JVH: (laughs) Possibly. You'll have to watch to find out. Let's just say things aren't always what they seem. They don't have social media accounts for a reason. But (pauses) yes, viewers can expect on screen romance. Among other things.

INTERVIEWER: One of the things that made The Scavenger Hunt so exciting were the riddles and dares. Viewers tried to solve the clues as they watched. Will there be anything similar in Trial and Punishment to engage the audience?

JVH: It was a very (pauses) intense game this time. Everyone had a role to play, a story to tell, a lie to hide. I think viewers will have fun trying to discern the guilty from the innocent for any given trial. Instead of dares, there will be sentences and punishments for the guilty. Some of those won't always fit the crime.

INTERVIEWER: That's an interesting departure. Previously, it had been player's choice. They could choose to walk away at any time. Will that no longer be a possibility?

JVH: The Jewel Justice system is not always fair. I think it reflects real life in that way.

INTERVIEWER: When can viewers expect new episodes to air? Has a date been set?

JVH: Sometime in March 2017. There are still a few legal kinks to iron out.

INTERVIEWER: Are there any secrets or sneak peeks that you can share now?

JVH: As you watch, it's important to remember one thing—everyone is guilty and morality is relative.

SYNOPSIS

One year ago, the infamous Jewel Van Hanen subjected her friends to an epic fear-based scavenger hunt. The resulting footage went viral spawning the worldwide phenomenon known as The Scavengers Initiative. Never content to let the dust settle, Jewel is ready to shake things up again with a new game: Trial and Punishment.

Everyone has secrets.

Everyone tells lies.

Everyone is guilty.

Which couple will survive?

The original cast has returned for one last showdown, but the past year (and newfound internet fame) has not been kind. Relationships crumbled, friends became bitter enemies, and quite a few have their sights set on revenge... Will the machinations of Jewel Van Hanen prevail once again? Or will Ethan and Olive, Shana and Francis, and Kylie and Penny be able to beat her at her own game?

Because this time Jewel is a contestant, too.

So, what does everyone think?

All of your faves are coming back for a new adventure (or more torture, depending on how you look at it...) The number one request I get is for an epilogue with Olive and Ethan, but I thought a new book might be a little bit better.

More details will be released soon!
