dreamer419 Presents: The Other Woman
Hello Everyone:
Thank you to Kelly Anne Blount for inviting me to participate in the Block Party once again. One question I seem to get all the time is, "What do you enjoy the most about writing?" My answer always is that I enjoy being able to learn new writing styles and experiment with different points of view. I never have written a story in the second person, so this post is a short story I've been working on which is written in the second point of view. One thing I ask is to think about what's really going on with the main character as you read on. I hope you guys enjoy the story.
It's been a week since you last saw him. He's called and left messages but you dare not answer him, for you know the second you hear his voice you will end up in his bed. Every night you dream of her. You see her crying on the floor in her closet with the door locked as her husband desperately bangs on the door trying to gain entrance. You see this horrible scene unfold, and you cry along with her because you know you are responsible for the pain she's feeling. You see her emerge from the closet, void of any emotion as she looks up at him. He goes to hold her, but she slaps him across his face. He stands still as you notice her attention focus on you. She starts to make her way towards you and you begin to panic. You want to run away but your body is frozen. Each step she takes brings her closer and closer to you until she is right in your face. Your breath hitches in your throat as she mouths the word "whore." The next thing you feel is a sharp stinging pain across your right cheek before you leave the darkness and are brought into the light of your bedroom. You sit up in bed as you try to slow your breathing while touching the cheek she slapped. The pain isn't there, but her touch felt so real.
Looking at the time, you realize you're late for work and decide to not go. You decide it's best to take the day off to calm your nerves, so you go for a walk in the park. The breeze outside immediately makes you feel at ease, but as soon as you take a seat on a bench, your phone goes off making you feel tense once more. You look to see that it's him. You want to ignore him, but you know that you can't. You miss him, and you need to hear his voice once again even if it's only for a second. You answer the call but there's a brief pause on the other end of the line.
"Hello."
He greets you and says he's surprised that you actually answered his call. You sit there dejectedly as he tells you he's been calling you for a while and that you never answer. You explain you were busy and couldn't return his calls, and you hear a tone of happiness in his reply. He tells you he wants to see you, but you see the vision of his grief stricken wife once more. Every time you think about him she's there. Every time you sleep with him, she's there. Every time you use his bathroom, she's there looking at you with the same lifeless eyes. You remember you're the reason she's lost the light in her eyes, but you're brought out of your thoughts when he asks you for your answer.
"I said I want to see you; weren't you listening?"
"Yes I was."
"Well how about tonight then? My wife will be heading out of town for the weekend with some friends, so it'll be the perfect time to meet up."
You want to say no, but his voice is enough for you to say yes. Just as you're about to answer him you see his wife, Patricia, standing over by the fountain. You freeze, and your heart begins to race as you find yourself in a situation you never dreamed would happen.
