Fly Away With Me

Mark sat on the table in the corner of the room, swinging his feet back in forth in tune with the rocking of the ship. His right arm hung in the air, a rope hanging from the ceiling tied to his wrist. He used his left hand to brush his raven strands of hair out of his face as he tried to block out the sounds of screaming and gunfire from the main deck. Mark hadn't done anything wrong, but to him, this whole entire situation was wrong. Mark's Dad was an angel hunter, and for the first few years since Mark turned 20, his dad had tried to teach him the proper angel hunting ways. Much to his father's disappointment, Mark had too much of a heart to even think about hurting the poor creatures. This, of course, caused him to be very unpopular among the rest of the crew members, and the poor 27 year old man was probably only alive due to his father's begging and pleading. Even after his father passed away, they kept him around because he didn't mind taking care of the angels upon being captured, keeping them in good health and condition.

But Mark was kept in this room, watching all the soon to be full cages swing back and forth from the ceiling, as the other went hunting, based on previous bad experiences where he had freed more angels than he had captured. Mark avoided eye contact as he heard the door to the "Keeping Room" flung open, the furious beating of wings and hissing of fury filling the previous silence. After all the cages were stuffed with an angel or two, they left, not even acknowledging Mark, and not seeming to care that he was still unable to move around very much. The air was tense as he looked around the room, all the angels staring at him accusingly, as if just because he was a human, it was all his fault. He sighed, clearing his throat, therefore gaining the attention of all the angels who weren't already staring at him.

"I know I'm the last person you want to hear speak, but if you'll just give me a chance, I'd like to explain myself. First of all, my name is Mark. I know some of you won't like me because I'm human, but we'll be spending the couple months together, so I suggest making the best of what you got. Contrary to popular belief, not every human is like the ones out there," Mark pointed to the door. "Myself included. I don't see the point in all the bull crap, because quite frankly I don't care if you have wings or not, but it's the life I was throw into. I know that's easy for me to say because it's not me in those cages, but as you can tell, I'm not really viewed very highly either. In fact, I'm only here because no one else wants to take care of you guys. I have the keys to your cages, and some medicine to heal your wound, but I'm kinda stuck." Mark sighed, slightly annoyed as he turned his gaze to tug on the rope he was tied to.

"I could help." A small voice came from the back of the room. Mark jerked his gaze over to the brown haired angel who had spoke up.

"Marzia, no." A blonde haired angel from the cage next to hers replied sternly, his gaze flickering between the pink winged female and Mark.

"It's fine, Fe." She smiled sweetly. "He really means no harm."

"I have the key to your cage, I could pass it down to you." Mark offered gently, trying not to become any less favorable than he was already. Mark held out the key to the angel closest to him, but the angel just stared at it.

"Fe..." Marzia pleaded, looking at what Mark assumed by now was the leader of the group.

The blonde sighed. "Fine. Take the key."

The tentatively reached out through the bars of his cage, Mark holding completely still as the angel snatched it from his grasp. Mark lowered his hand, watching the key as it moved down the line, before it finally reached Marzia. She unlocked her cage, gently hopping onto the ground, stretching her wings slightly and walking over to Mark. She looked over him, up and down a few times, before smiling and nodding, holding out the key. Mark took it, returning the sweet smile and thanking her as she freed him from the rope. He rubbed his wrist, before motioning to the medicine on the table. He went around unlocking all the cages as she inspected all the bottles, making sure everything was alright.
