I stared at my phone. It was mocking me.

I borrowed Lucas' phone yesterday and came upon Kayden's number. Yes, I know, I know. I'm dating Lucas but it doesn't hurt to check up on a friend right? Friends can call other friends.

'Friends don't call after disappearing for four years.'

There goes my smart alec conscious again.

Well I have his number now, and I'm going to call.

I slowly pressed the numbers onto the keyboard and pressed enter. My heart is beating uncontrollably. I need to stop acting like a sixteen-year-old and act like the twenty-two-year-old I am.

A few rings pass before someone picks up. I hear muffled voices and baby cries before they speak up.

"Hewo!" A little girls voice picks up. Maybe I have the wrong number..

"Hello, Sweetie." I answered after a few seconds.

"Can you bwing me candy, mommy won't let me have any!" Her voice sounded as if she were two or three.

I laughed a little before I heard another voice. "Sweetheart! Can daddy have the phone?" I hitched at the sound of his voice. I didn't have the wrong number.

"No Daddy! She's bwinging me candy!" The little girl cried.

"I'll get you candy when mommy leaves alright?" I heard Kayden whisper to the little girl.

"Hello?" His voice said breathlessly. My heartbeat became rapid and my voice inaudible.

"Kayden! Who is it?" I heard the voice in the background instantly recalling to it. Chelsea's.

"No one." Kayden replied before hanging up.

I ruined my one chance. But really what was I expecting? For him to fall in love with me? Ha ha. Delusion as always, Dawn.

I have Lucas and that's all I need.

I felt the New York breeze gliding against my bare legs and up my sun dress as I quickly put it down before anyone could notice. Lucas had to work today and I didn't mind. I had to force him to go, it's not like he can't talk to me afterwards. After all it's our last day.

I wanted to spend my last day without all the fancies. No designer shops, no five star restaurants, no pricey gifts, and definitely no more calls. Just New York. My New York.

I sat down on the bench next to an elderly man as he was feeding the ducks right behind the parks pond. It reminded me so much of Gramps and I couldn't stop my subconscious from doing what it wanted to do.

"May I help?" I politely asked the elderly man as he nodded and smiled handing me a few pieces out of the bag as the ducks approached us.

"What's your name dear?" The elderly man asked as he threw a piece of bread by a close duck.

"Dawn." I smiled and replied.

"It was certainly nice to meet you dear, but I have to get back home before lunch gets cold." He chuckled heartily as I joined him. I wonder what it's like to grow old together. Probably like in the movies. My favorite thing in the world; elderly couples.

"It was nice to meet you to." I smiled and waved as he handed me the bag of bread and I smiled again.

I started to tear a few more pieces of bread until I got a call from Lucas.

"Hello." I said in a sing-songy voice.

"I take it as you had a good day." He chuckled into the phone.
