I felt a wind of guilt pass as Mac told me what had really happened.
"Dawn don't worry everything will be okay I promise." Mac said, but I sure didn't believe.
'Nalani may be paralyzed' I kept repeating over and over in my head. 'And it's all my fault'
We get our answer in an hour.
Fingers Crossed.
I decided to go shower, showers always soothed me. I didn't know Nalani could lie so well, she looked perfectly fine, but what was the truth? The truth hurt.
I put on my black top, pea green coat, grabbed my keys and left with Mac. The car ride was mostly silent until Mac brought up the sleepover topic which I didn't care about now all I cared for was Nalani and how she was.
"Thought of what your gonna do to get out of your dare this year?" Mac asked with a smirk.
'Huh?' I thought to myself, but then I remembered the first to snooze gets the extreme dare at the next sleepover, you can't blame me I was up all night studying.
I just laughed and rolled my eyes. It hurt to laugh.
How could I be laughing when Nalani could be like in a wheelchair forever?
We arrived at the hospital and waited for almost an hour when the doctor came and brought us to Nalani, she was asleep.
"Hello girls, make sure to keep your voices low this is the first time she's slept since we've got here." Mrs. Roy, Nalani's mom informed us.
I know we had just gotten there but I had to ask, "So how is she, what did the doctor say, when can she leave--" I started to ask.
Mrs. Roy cut me off and put one hand on my shoulder and said, "Dawn, Honey she just needs rest. She'll be on a boot for about a month or two and we can leave tommrow afternoon." She said with a warm smile to assure me everything will be alright.
'She's okay? She's okay!' I thought to myself and there it was.
That salty taste on my lip once again. But this time for joy, The good kind of tears. I glanced over at Mac and saw she had a few forming too. I gave Mac a bone crushing hug while she returned it.
Nalani yawned and rubbed her eyes. Mac and I rushed to her as fast as we could we all had tears of joy and let me tell you it's the best feeling ever.
"You're coming tomorrow night, right?" I asked with a huge smile on my face.
"After three hours of arguing with mom she had to give in!" Nalani replied.
We just laughed. And laughed. Oh and laughed.
"Well we have to get planning, be there by 7 sharp!" Mac said and I nodded.
We hugged Nalani atleast a million times before we left, and then bid our goodbyes.
I dropped Mac home after a chat about the sleepover and it sounds perfect..let's just hope it goes as planned.
Fingers crossed.
Once Again.
