Chapter 27: Carefree

"Punch it like it's her face!" Lucas encouraged me.

BOOM!

SMACK!

"Hah! Take that Chelsea!" I took off the boxing gloves and wiped sweat from my forehead as I took a seat with my breath still uneven. Boxing is just, wow. It took all the anger out of me, even if I wasn't saying it all aloud.

"Dawnykins may I say-"

"No you may not say." I interrupted him giving him a flat look before laughing till my sides hurt. Lucas shot me a flat look then pinched my cheeks to annoy me while I smacked his hands away.

"You're a natural." He put his finger on his chin and looked over to me with an eyebrow cocked up. "Are you sure you haven't done this before?" He joked.

"Think I'm better than you." I challenged smirking at him.

"Not a chance in hell." He remarked while I scoffed at him.

**

I shook out my wet hair and sat into Lucas' car. I bet I still smelled like gym socks because the showers were only allowed to be two minutes long. Two. Freaking. Minutes. Thank the lord for body mist. I probably put on a gallon before entering the car but it didn't seem to have an overbearing effect on Lucas. Well I suppose you get used to it after a couple years huh?

"Any plans for tonight?" Lucas asked breaking the silence.

"Date." I replied casually.

"Huh." He asked dumbfoundedly taking his eyes away from the road.

"Eyes on the road!" I nearly shrieked. He jerked his attention back to the road but his fingers clenched onto the wheel so tightly he could break the wheel off.

"With?" He asked with an unreadable tone breaking the silence.

"My couch and my beloved homework." I said pulling out some mints.

He let out a laugh and his head jerked back but quickly turned his attention back to the road from my shriek a few moments ago.

"I thought you meant an actual date." He said in between laughs.

"Uh, why exactly is that 'hilarious'?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest after popping a few mints in my mouth.

"Becasue you don't need to date." He said in a whisper.

"And why is that, Father." I joked. He playfully rolled his eyes ignoring my remark.

"We're going to a party tonight." He said casually. I nearly choked on my mint. Wait I actually did while Lucas was just laughing like a maniac.

"Do you not remember what happened the last time you took me to a party?" I exclaimed throwing up my hands for a dramatic effect. "First and last." I muttered underneath my breath.

"C'mon. Live a little." He replied.

"It won't be like last time, this time you'll be away from the sex driven maniacs okay?" He assured me.

"Like you and Kayden?" I scoffed.

"Besides us." He said popping his collar.

"Oh lookie my stop is here." I said almost fully out of the car until Lucas hands were on my hips pulling me back in.

"Dawn," He said looking at me with almost pleading eyes. "Please come? You need to have fun. It'll take your mind off the ball." He said softly caressing my cheek. I thought about it for a few seconds and gave in. Like always.
