Into The Light

New School

My alarm went off at 6 am, I slowly roll out of bed, walk to the bathroom, and get ready for the day.

I walk downstairs to the kitchen and get a yogurt from the fridge and quickly eat breakfast, I take out my schedule and glance at it again, I want to make sure I know what my day was going to look like.

I finish eating, throw away my trash, and go into the bathroom to brush my teeth. Once I finish, I walk back into the kitchen, put my schedule into my backpack, and check to make sure I had everything I would need for the day. I look at the timer on the stove and realize that it was almost 7. I put my backpack on and walk outside to Sarah's house. She opens the door with a smile on her face and hugs me as she walks outside.

"Hey, Lila! How are you?"

"Hey Sarah, I'm really tired, I couldn't sleep last night, So Zack and I texted until almost 2,"

"Oh, really? What did you guys talk about?"

"We mostly asked each other questions, but at one point he told me he thinks I'm beautiful that he likes my eyes and smile, I couldn't get that out of my head,"

"Aww, do you think he was flirting with you?"

"I don't know, maybe he was just being nice,"

"Luke told me he likes you,"

"I doubt he likes me. We just met yesterday.. He hasn't gotten to know me yet,"

"From what Luke told me, Zack has more than just a small little crush on you,"

When we reach the bus stop, a few other kids were standing there. After about 5 minutes, the bus comes around the corner, stops in front of us, Sarah and I are the first ones on, sitting in the first seat. After a quiet 15 minute drive, the bus pulls into the parking lot, Sarah and I are the first ones off.

She grabs my hand, leading the way into the school. We walk through the main entrance doors and turn left down the main hallway.

"Each hallway, is a different subject, This is the hallway where all the math classes are," she says pointing down the hallway to the left.

We continue to walk down the main hallway, passing the English hallway and Science hallway "All of the lockers are here in the main hallway, Our lockers are on the left side, next to the social studies hallway,"

I look down at my schedule to find my locker number and combination when I look back up, Sarah is already at her locker, getting her stuff out.

"What locker number do you have?"

"217,"

"Your locker is in between mine and Zack's,"

She points to a locker to the left of her. I walk over to my locker and put the combination in. Once my locker opens, I unpack my backpack, neatly putting everything inside. I grab my history binder and pencil pouch before closing my locker.

"Good Morning, Sarah, and Lila,"

"Good Morning Zack,"

"Excited for your first day?"

"I'm more anxious than anything,"

"Don't be anxious you have both of us in your classes with you,"

"I know, It's just weird being in a new school, I'm sure after the first class I'll be fine,"

Zack closes his locker door, and the three of us walk to class.

"Good morning Sarah, Good Morning Zack," Mrs. Johnson says as we walk into the classroom.
