Today is my last first day of high school, the nerves of the year started to set in last night, causing me not to sleep very well last night. Zack would be here in less than 15 minutes to pick me up. I sat at the kitchen island glancing over my last ever high school schedule
1. English 4 - Brown
2. Forensics - George
3. Statistics - Wyatt
4. American Government - Johnston
5. Choir- Anderson
6. French 4 - Jones
Sarah and I had elected to do early dismissal again, and since we got out at 1:15 each day, we would be able to spend time with the boys and have our study group, as we have in the past.
"Have a good day at school sweetheart," Mom says, kissing my cheek
"Thanks, mom,"
"You're going to do great, Lila. Don't be nervous," Dad says
I hadn't mentioned being nervous, Dad knew me better than anyone, I might not be his biologically, but he cared about me like I was.
"Can I ask you guys something?"
"Of course sweetheart, you can talk to us about anything," Mom says
"When you get married next month, can I change my last name?"
Mom smiles, "If you want to, We want to leave that up to you,"
I nod, "I want to keep both last names, I want to be Delilah Elizabeth Jones-Martin,"
Dad smiles, and hugs me tightly, "That means the world to me, I was never going to ask you to change your name, but I'm glad that you've chosen to do so, I love you, Lila,"
"I love you too dad,"
"I've got to head to work, have a good first day, okay? I can't wait to hear about your first day at dinner tonight," Mom says
"I better get going too, we'll see you tonight Lila,"
I threw away my breakfast trash and walked outside, knowing that Zack would be pulling in the driveway any minute. When I saw his car pull into the driveway, I smiled. I walked down the driveway and got into the passenger seat of his car.
"Good morning, beautiful, I brought you some coffee,"
"Good morning, Zack, Thank you, I'm tired, I need it,"
"I thought you might, you were texting me until a little after two,"
"I was too nervous to sleep,"
"Why? it's our senior year, you've been going here since the end of Freshman year,"
"I just want to make sure I do well, it's my last year of school before I start college,"
"You're going to be fine, I promise,"
"I know, I'm just overthinking,"
"Just think, in a little over a year, we'll be getting married,"
"I know, I can't wait, in 14 months and we're getting married,"
"Me either, I get to marry my best friend, high school sweetheart, love of my life.. "
"You're going to make me cry,"
"It's all true,"
"I know it is, I feel the same way,"
Zack smiles, "Do you still want to have our study group at your house after school?"
