Forever

I hadn't seen Zack all day. I knew something was going on because it wasn't like him to not at least text me and let me know that he was busy with something. I spent most of the day lounging around the cabin, trying to rest because I knew that the bonfire was tonight, and I knew it would be a late night.

"Hey Lila, we're going to go get ice cream, do you want to join us?" Sarah asks sitting down at the foot of my bunk

"Is Zack going to be there?"

"I'm not sure, I can ask Luke," She texts him, to which he quickly responds, "No he's not, he's got something going on,"

I sighed, "He's hiding something from me, but I don't know what it is,"

"Maybe he's just busy preparing the sermon tonight,"

"He had everything planned before we got here,"

"I know he'll be at the bonfire tonight, so you'll get to see him there,"

"I wanted to see him this afternoon, I haven't seen him since the service last night and I miss him,"

"Do you want me to call him and see what's going on?"

"No, it's okay, he won't respond, I already tried,"

"I'm sorry Lila, you can come to hang out with us, we can cheer you up, and we can eat our weight in ice cream,"

"What if he's going to break up with me?"

"You know he loves you, the last few months of your relationship have proven that,"

"Why would he hide stuff from me though?"

"I'm going to call him and let him talk to you, maybe he'll answer for me,"

She calls him and talks to him for a minute before handing me the phone

"Hey, love, sorry I've been busy preparing for the service tonight, I had to change some things around because it's a shorter service,"

"Can I see you before the bonfire tonight, even if it's just 20 minutes to go get ice cream?"

"Yeah, give me 10 minutes and I'll come by your cabin and pick you up, okay?"

"Okay, sounds good,"

I hung up the phone, once I had finished getting ready. we walked outside and sat on the porch. as soon as I saw Zack, I ran to him and jumped in his arms, kissing his cheek

"Someone's happy to see me," he teases

"I've missed you,"

"I know, I missed you too, sorry I know today hasn't been the best day, but I'm going to make it up to you, I'm going to take you on a special date tonight for our third anniversary,"

"Really?"

He nods, "Obviously, we're stuck here, So I was thinking of grabbing snacks at the snack shop, and hanging out at the gazebo right after service before heading to the bonfire tonight, how does that sound?"

"It sounds perfect, maybe we can celebrate when we get back home?"

He nods, "I think we can do that,"

"I can't wait,"

"Me either, let's go get ice cream before I have to go back to meetings and stuff,"

The half-hour I got to spend with him was amazing, I was sad when it was over and he had to go back to the chapel for the meetings. I spent the rest of my afternoon and early evening in the cabin, only leaving the cabin for dinner and to attend the service.
