Tonight there was a baptism service being held, I was only going because Josie and Emily are getting baptized and I wanted to support my best friends. I had stayed in the cabin all day, I hadn't responded to any of the texts that Zack had sent.
"Are you ready to head to the chapel, Lila?" Grace asks
"As ready as I'll ever be,"
I slowly hobbled up the hill toward the chapel. Grace and Sarah walked beside me to make sure I didn't fall or trip over anything.
"Where are you gonna sit?" Grace asks
"The very back row, I want the smallest bench to myself in case I need to get up for something, it would be easier than trying to go up the steps with crutches,"
"Good point, we can sit in the row in front of you if you want," Sarah says
"No it's okay, I know you guys like sitting in the front,"
"I don't want you to sit alone though, I feel like a bad friend,"
"It's okay, Sarah, I'm staying long enough for them to get baptized, after that I'm going back to the cabin,"
"Zack's preaching before the baptisms,"
I sighed, "I wish I would have known that, I don't want to see him or hear his voice right now,"
"What happened between you two?"
"I don't want to talk about it right now,"
"I'm not going to force you to, but you know I'm always here to listen, right?"
"I know, I just don't know how to explain it,"
"I'm gonna move up to the front row, text me if you need anything,"
"I'm going to go to the bathroom before it starts,"
"Lila, you need to stay here and listen to him, support him. Even though things aren't good between you right now, you should still be there for him,"
"Even though he's not there for me?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Never mind,"
I slowly got up and tried to hobble away
Luke sits down beside Sarah and turns around to look at me, "Where do you think you're going?"
"I'm going to the bathroom,"
"No, you're going to sit down and listen to Zack's message,"
"Let her go, Luke, there's no point in arguing with her," Sarah says
"She needs to stop being a bad friend and pushing everyone away,"
I didn't say another word, I walked toward the dining hall where the closest bathroom was. I could hear someone shouting my name and running behind me. I knew it was Zack. Which is why I kept going.
"Lila,"
I stopped and looked over at him. "Yes, Zack?"
"I wanted to apologize for everything that happened yesterday,"
"Hey Zack, and Lila, service is starting in five minutes," Pastor Evan says as he walks toward us
"I'll be there in a minute, I want to make things right with Lila,"
Pastor Evan looks at him curiously, "What's going on?"
"It's nothing, go ahead and go, Zack,"
"Woah, I could feel the attitude on that one, something isn't right,"
