Going To Camp

It was 4 am and I laid there awake, I looked through the messages that Sarah and Zack had sent me, I felt bad, I knew I shouldn't have gotten upset over something like that. I texted Zack asking if he was still awake, and was surprised when he responded right away.

When I heard his footsteps coming into the room, I sat up in my bed as he came over and sat beside me

"What's wrong Lila? you should be asleep by now,"

"I couldn't sleep, I felt bad for how I acted last night,"

"I'm sorry, It was my fault, you said that you didn't want to get wet and I didn't listen, can you forgive me?"

"I forgive you, but I still haven't gotten upset and ignored you,"

"You haven't slept at all have you?"

"No, after you kissed my good night, I started crying and haven't been able to sleep,"

Zack wraps his arm around my waist, "I'll sit here with you until you fall asleep, even though we have to get up in less than two hours,"

"It's okay babe, go back downstairs with Luke and Sarah, you need to try and rest,"

He yawns, "I'll be fine, here lay your head on my lap and I'll stay here with you until you fall asleep"

He scooted back so his back touched the wall, and patted the bed beside him. I laid my head on his lap and closed my eyes. Within minutes I heard light snores coming from him. I laid there listening to him snore for a while before I decided to get up.

I walked downstairs and into the kitchen where Sarah's mom was preparing breakfast.

"Good morning Lila, You're up early,"

"Good morning, Mrs. Campbell, I couldn't sleep so I just got up and came down here to see if you needed help,"

"Is everything alright?"

"Yeah, Everything is good now, Zack and I talked and he fell asleep,"

"I heard one of them coming upstairs, I'm glad everything is alright,"

"Me too, I'm glad we could talk things out before we went to camp,"

"I am too, Sometimes the best thing to do is talk, apologize and hear the other person out,"

"We always try to, He's a great listener,"

"So are you, I can see it in your friendship with Sarah,"

"I got that from my dad, he was always the best at listening,"

She hugs me tightly, "I know you miss him, but you'll see him again one day,"

"I know, I just miss him a lot, It's been a year and a half already, sometimes it feels like just yesterday,"

"It gets a little easier with time, of course, you never forget them, and they're always in your heart, but you find joy and happiness in new things, I lost my dad 5 years ago, two years after that Allie got married, and a year later, I became a Grandma, and nothing brings me greater joy than seeing her little face,"

"I've seen pictures and she's adorable,"

"She's just like her mom, I can't wait for you to meet Allie, her husband Matthew, and their daughter Gracelynn, You'll love them,"

"Sarah says the same thing,"

"Can you go wake the others up for me? breakfast is almost ready,"

"Yeah, I can do that,"

I walked upstairs and slowly shook Zack, "hey babe time to get up, breakfast is almost ready,"

He slowly opened his eyes, "Did you sleep at all?"
