What Love Can Do
Where could we possibly be going?
Iyan ang unang tumatak sa isip ko right after she ended the phone call. I was left hanging knowing that we will soon leave the country after two days based on what I've heard. I thought it was just a plan, but it seems that Jade was really into it.
Instead of asking, I decided to walk off and went inside our bedroom. She was silently gazing at the ceiling on which I had put on light up stars and moon. She was blabbering about something and I really find it adorable. Ayoko munang isipin 'yon ngayon.
Skye must have sensed my presence. Her eyes were now fixed on mine and that's when I heard her constant giggles. It was a cue for me to take her out of the crib.
Kinarga ko siya at hiniga sa kama. I laid beside her and starts playing with her cute little hands.
I kept on singing Someone's Waiting For You and other children songs that my mother used to sing to me.
Bigla kong naalala na bukas na pala ang death anniversary niya, it's been twelve years but I could still feel the longing and disheartenment. I know the person who killed her was already suffering in hell.
I let out a deep sighed and swallowed the lump on my throat. It was really hard to not think about the painful memories especially the worst ones.
"Baby are you hungry?" I gently rubbed her tummy. "Gusto mong magtimpla na ng gatas si mama?"
And I heard her giggle again. I might look like a funny clown on my daughter's eyes.
Bigla namang nagbukas ang pinto.
I tried my best not to look at her.
"Wow, someone's being jolly again."
"Why didn't you tell me you're already here love?"
And why didn't you tell me about the early flight Jade?
Pero nanatili akong tiklop.
"Oh by the way, Rafael told me that he and Kathleen arrived yesterday for a family vacation." I should be happy about her progress but unfortunately, I was being controlled by my anger because of what I heard earlier.
"We should pay them a visit, the three of us. I also want them to meet Skye. Maybe tomorrow sounds good?" She said with excitement.
"I can't Jade, uuwi ako ng Ramontes bukas."
"What?" She frowned. "But why?"
"It's my mother's death anniversary. Kung gusto mong dalawin sila, pwede kong kausapin si Luna para samahan ka." I'm still playing with my daughter's hand, trying to avoid eye contact with her mother.
"No I'm coming with you."
"Pano si Skye?"
"I will ask my mom –"
"No Jade, dito ka nalang. Hindi naman ako magtatagal"
To be honest, gusto ko muna siyang iwasan para makapag-isip-isip ako kung ano ang dapat sabihin sa kanya. I felt betrayed by the fact that she didn't even asked me regarding her plans. It was clear for the both of us that we should wait until I finish my course. But Jade still go for it behind my back.
