Katie was furious. She was trying to fix an old iphone her mother had stored away, and how it worked, but she needed her tools and her twin brother, Matt, took them.
Now, she loved her brother, but no sibling had a perfect relationship, and they were no exception. Sometimes, when Matt wanted to play with her outside, he would take her tools to bring her out. She loved spending time with her brother, but she hated the out doors. She especially hated the forest behind their house.
Now video games, she could play with her brother for hours upon hours, but they had gotten their video games taken away for a week, because they didn't complete their chores. And if Matt couldn't play video games, he would be out side playing.
"Mommy! Mommy!" She cried as she ran to her mother, who was at the front door talking to someone. She never paid attention to those at the door and today was no exception. "Matt took my tools! He said he was just borrowing, but he won't give them back!"
"Just give me a second, Katie. I'll help you." Her mother replied softly, still focusing on the other people.
"Hi!" Katie heard a voice say. She turned the direction, and saw a small black haired boy standing in front of her.
"Who are you?" Katie ask as she scrunched her nose, examining the Japanese boy in front of her. She wasn't the kind of person to kindly welcome strangers. She liked her family, and didn't really like to expand her social bubble.
"I'm Takashi Shirogane, but I go by Shiro." He replied with a big, bright smile on his face. She liked the name. Takashi Shirogane. It was a unique name. Her face softened a bit.
If she called him Shiro, she wouldn't get to say his actual name, that she liked, so she decided to make up an excuse to say his actual name.
"People should really go by their first names, it would make life easier." Katie said coldly, her face emotionless. She may have been a seven year old, but she had an advance thinking process. Her brain apparently developed faster than normal, causing her to be gifted in technology and problem solving. But just because she could "solve" her problems, it didn't mean she always had the best solutions.
And this was definitely one of those situations. A normal, probably older person would just ask if they could just say their first name, but Katie, decided against it.
"Katie!" Her mother said looking sharply down at her. "Be nice!"
Katie rolled her eyes as she stuck out her hand. "Hi, my name is Katie. Nice to meet you." She replied monotone, mocking her mother. Although, she liked his name, she still didn't like new people.
Takashi took her hand and shook it. "Nice to me you too, Katie." He beamed. He was being far nicer than Katie was.
Through the years even, though she was only eight, she had seen many people come and go. It's common with a famous father. People visit, talk, and then leave, but with Takashi, Katie had this feeling in her gut that this was not going to be that last time they encountered.
