The next day Luke set out with 3PO to find R2D2. When they finally found him they were attacked by sand people. When Luke awoke an old man stood above him. It was Ben Kenobi. Luke told him, what the droid had said. The old man looked shocked then revealed that he was Obi-Wan Kenobi.
He had them go to his house to see what was on the recording. As they sat in his house Ben told Luke of his father and said how the two of them had fought in the Clone Wars. "No, my father didn't fight in the wars. He was a navigator on a spice freighter." Luke said. "That's what your uncle told you. He didn't hold with your father's ideals. Thought he should have stayed here and not gotten involved." Ben explained. 'It would make sense' Luke thought.
"You fought in the Clone Wars?" He asked. "Yes, I was once a Jedi Knight the same as your father." Ben said proudly. "I wish I'd known him." Luke said sadly. Ben smiled. "He was the best star-pilot in the galaxy, and a cunning warrior. I understand you've become quite a good pilot yourself. And he was a good friend. Which reminds me..." Ben got up and picked up something.
"I have something here for you. Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but your uncle wouldn't allow it. He feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damned-fool idealistic crusade like your father did." Ben said. He handed the weapon to Luke. Luke looked at it. "What is it?" He asked. "Your fathers lightsaber. This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or as random as a blaster." Ben explained.
Luke felt the coolness of the smooth metal in his hand. It felt...right, somehow. He pressed the button. A bright blue beam came out. It was mesmerizing. As he looked at it, he began to think of his father.

"An elegant weapon for a more civilized time. For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times, before the Empire." Luke hadn't really heard what Ben had been saying. He had been lost in thought. He shut off the light saber.
"How did my father die?" He asked sitting down. Ben sat down as well. "A young Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil, helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights. He betrayed and murdered your father. Now the Jedi are all but extinct. Vader was seduced by the dark side of the Force." Ben explained. Luke looked down sadly. Then curiosity hit him.
"The Force?" He asked. "Well, the Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together." Ben told Luke.
R2 whistled excitedly. "Now, let's see if we can't figure out what you are, my little friend. And where you come from." Ben said to the droid. "I saw part of the message he was..."
