It was the Saturday before the first show of the One Direction tour, and Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin, Calum Hood, and Michael Clifford were sitting in their hotel room in Gatlinburg, Tennessee along with their friends Christian Ozera, Dimitri Belikov, and Colin Kaepernick.
“I have a good feeling about this tour,” Ashton was saying, walking to the window and peering out at the busy city street below. “It’s going to be a lot more publicity for us, and with our album coming out in a few weeks we definitely need as much of that as we can get. Plus, more people know about us, so we’ll have more fans and more people in the crowd singing our songs.”
Calum nodded in agreement. “Definitely. I’ve been checking Twitter a lot since we announced that we would be touring with One Direction again, and it seems like everyone is just as excited about it as we are.”
“Hopefully this year will be our last as just an opening act,” Michael said. “because as much as I love touring with the boys, I’m ready for us to have our own headlining tour.”
Ashton smiled and looked over at Luke, who was sitting on the end of the bed absently strumming his guitar. “Why are you so quiet, Lukey?”
Luke shrugged. “I haven’t been getting much sleep here lately, so I guess I’m just tired.”
“Why haven’t you been sleeping?” Ashton asked, a concerned expression on his face. “Have you had something on your mind?”
Luke shook his head. “Not really. I guess I just haven’t gotten used to the time difference between here and Australia yet.”
“That’s understandable,” Colin stood up and stretched. “I say this all the time, but are we just going to sit here all night or actually go and do something fun?”
“We could walk downtown,” Michael suggested. “I saw a lot of neat shops when we were driving past that I want to go in.”
Ashton jumped up from his place by the window and followed the others outside into the bright late afternoon sun. “This is a really neat place,” Ashton commented as they made their way through the crowds of people. He was about to say something else, but stopped when he noticed Luke had stopped walking behind him. “Lukey? What’s wrong?"
"Nathan," Luke whispered. "I thought I just saw Nathan."
Ashton rolled his eyes. “We left Nathan back in Australia, remember? There’s no way he can be here in Gatlinburg with us."
"There are a lot of ways," Luke replied shakily. "He is a vampire, after all."
"Yeah, well, so are we," Ashton put his hand on Luke's shoulder and guided him forward. "Come on. I'm sure you're just seeing things."
Luke sighed. "Whatever you say, Ash."
