I had been cleaning the condo all day...
London and I had finally settled in, getting everything in place so it actually looked like a livable space to live in.
"London, are you hungry?"
"No, Mommy!"
She had eaten a while ago, but I wanted to sit down and rest, so I was asking her now. She was in her room playing with her dolls and watching TV, but I wanted to lay out on the couch and watch TV.
I sat down and started flipping through the channels and soon the doorbell rang. Ugh. Who was that? I got up with an attitude and scurried to the door because whoever it was, wouldn't stop knocking.
"Roman?"
"Uh, hey, I know I didn't call you to let you know that I was coming, but I really need to talk to you."
"Baby, what's wrong?"
He looked so disoriented and confused. What was wrong with him? What did he need to talk about?
I let him in and he came in with wet clothes and everything. I didn't even notice it was raining outside.
"Ro, what's wrong?" he just stood there, "Are you okay? Are you drunk? Hungry? Can you tell me what's wrong so I can help you?"
"No, I'm not drunk."
"Well, tell me what's wrong then."
Still nothing...
"Come on, you need to get out of those clothes before you catch a cold."
Oh, God, I was talking like I was his mother. Either way, I grabbed his hand and led him to the bathroom that was attached to my room.
"Okay, the towels are right here, the soap is peach scented, but you probably don't care, and you have to turn the knob all the way to right for it to get hot and then adjust it. Okay, I think you're good. I'll be right out here if you need anything, alright?"
He nodded and I closed the door on the way out. I had no clue what to do. Was he okay? Obviously, he wasn't okay, but what was wrong? What did he need to talk to me about?
I waited...and waited. It felt like years had passed before I heard the shower turn off. I heard him rustle around in there for a while, and then the door finally opened.
"Oh, uh, here, I have this shirt and sweats from a while ago." I got up and handed him some clean clothes. "When you get done, you can lay down if you want to, or we can talk on the couch or something."
He nodded and slipped on everything I gave him except for the shirt. He threw that onto the dresser and went over to the other side of my bed.
"Is it okay if I lay down right here?"
"Yeah, of course, go ahead."
Roman got in and made himself comfortable, and I laid down next to him, just looking at him, waiting for him to say something.
I decided to try and brighten his mood if he wasn't at least going to talk, so I started off with a small, encouraging smile. That seemed to work a little bit.
I inched closer and kissed him, and he leaned over to kiss me right back.
Sometimes I didn't completely understand our relationship...and sometimes I didn't want to. There were times like this where we weren't really sure where we were, but we still were there for each other.
I couldn't help but feel it was my job to make him feel better, or at least see what all I could do to help. He just had to tell me what was wrong.
