Trust And Believe Me

I felt him staring at me, constantly.

I didn't want to nag and tell him to stop, though.

He had been home since late last night and it felt like a unwanted storm was waiting in the shadows to come barging in on my life.

"London wants to go to the park later on today." he said.

I had been in the kitchen warming up some coffee to take to work. It was my first day back since I had Penelope.

"I have a meeting after school, so..." I looked in the cabinets for my coffee mug, but I couldn't seem to find it. "Shoot, where is it?"

"You can use mine."

"No, I'll find mine or just use another one." I grabbed another mug because it was becoming too difficult to find mine. "London! Do you have your shoes on, sweetie? It's almost time to go!"

"I'm coming, Mommy!" she ran into the kitchen with her backpack on her back and a bright smile. "Daddy, I'm going to school!"

"I know, Princess, are you ready?"

"It's not her first day, Roman, she's going to be fine." I said quietly, "Come on, say 'bye' to Daddy so we can go."

"Bye, Daddy. Are we going to the park?"

"Yeah, I'll come get you from school and then we'll go."

She smiled and gave him a hug before grabbing my hand. Penelope wasn't up before I left, but I gave her a quick kiss before I went to go make my coffee.

I got to the school about fifteen minutes early so I could drop London off at the Learning Center. She barely looked back at me before heading into the classroom to go play with her friends. My little girl was growing up.

"Chase! You're finally back!" Chelsea ran up and hugged me tight, "You lost all that baby weight so fast, girl!"

I laughed and returned the hug, "Not all of it, but most of it."

"How does it feel? Did you miss the smell of sweaty children and playgrounds?"

"I did, actually, which is why I'm excited to be back."

"I didn't tell the kids you were coming back, so they're going to flip out when they see you. You're all they could talk about. 'When is Mrs. Reigns coming back?' and all those type of questions."

"Awe, I feel so loved."

We began to walk towards the main office where I had to sign in. When we got there, the secretary told me she was so happy to see me. I felt welcomed back with open arms as I passed everyone and they told me how much they missed me being here.

I finally stepped back into my classroom and it felt surreal. There were a few things different on the wall, but the chairs were the same and the board calendar had only changed months.

I sat my things down and started writing everything on the board. It was close to the end of the year, which meant I would start testing and seeing what they knew. Math and Language Arts was the most important, so we'd start there.

It felt good to be in a healthy environment. No negativity or husbands who thought you nagged them. I forgot how much I liked going to work and how much it meant to me.

Soon the bell rang and I heard kids filling the hallways, laughing and talking to their friends. I took a deep breath and straightened out my shirt.

The door opened and a line started to file in of all my fourth graders. They didn't really pay attention to who was in front of the class as they sat down at their assigned seats and quieted down.
