"And then what?"

"I walked away."

I could hear Phil chuckling on the other end of the phone, "I love you guys so much. It's like you try so hard to be apart, but something always pulls you back together."

"Says the man who said I've done all that I can do."

"You have, and now it's his turn to do something."

"When are you coming back from your elaborate vacation with your wife?"

"Tuesday."

"Okay, making sure I told my mom the right day she needs to keep the girls."

"Yeah, it's Tuesday." It went silent, and Phil was never one to be silent, so I knew something was up. "I have a proposition for you."

"What kind of proposition?"

"A small vacation."

"You're coming back from vacation."

"I'm talking about you and me, crazy!"

"Oh, what kind of vacation?"

"School is about to start back for you and I'm still on paternity leave from wrestling and we haven't done anything together all summer."

I sat on the edge of my bed, "Where would we go?"

"New York! It's not too far, but it can still feel like a vacation."

"When?"

"I was thinking this weekend? It's the last weekend before you have to start getting ready for school, so why not?"

"I have kids, Felipe, I can't tell my mom at the very last minute that I need her to watch them."

He sighed, "Can you name one thing fun you've done all summer? I know I can't."

"All the way in New York?"

"Then after that you start school and Roman makes his decision."

"What do you mean?"

"It's either us or your job."

His face went blank, "What? Chase, that's not fair."

"It's your only chance, you can take it or leave it."

"What about matches I'm already scheduled for?"

I thought about that aspect and came up with a simple conclusion. "You're booked until Summerslam, right?"

"Yes."

"Well, since it's such a big deal that a ladder match is going to be the main event, you can make your decision then."

"How would I do that?"

"If you climb that ladder and grab those titles, I know you chose your job. If you purposely lose, still putting on a great match, then I know you chose your family."

"And then I quit?"

"After that you can figure out who you need to go through to be released from your contract and all the financial parts of it."

Yeah, I meant it when I said it was either us or his job. His job was at the root of everything we fought about.

"What if Toni comes? More friends, more fun?"

"I'll have fun either way, Phil. We're talking about going to New York."

"Well, invite someone you want to be there."
