Unsaying What Was Said

"Excuse me?"

He walked out of the bathroom and saw her over by the desk in the hotel room.

"Did I just hear you say you feel like they're your kids and not ours?"

She nodded her head.

"I'm utterly confused. Why the hell do you think that? I'm not a dead beat dad, Chase, I take care of my kids!"

"I never said you didn't."

"Then what is that comment supposed to mean?"

"I said what I meant."

"This isn't a time to be a smartass."

"I'm not being a smartass."

"God, can you be here with me for two seconds, please?!" he yelled.

He screamed at her, actually.

Anyone within a mile radius could hear him.

"Stop with the smart remarks and answer my question!"

She saw his hurt and anger through his facial expressions. He had about fifty all at once, but she knew they all meant the exact same thing.

She had hit below the belt.

"Nothing."

"What?"

"It's nothing. I only said it to make you mad."

Explaining why she said it would only make things worse, and she began to feel bad.

Certain things were only meant for her thoughts and weren't meant to be shared.

Sure, sometimes she felt like a single parent, but she hadn't felt that way in a very long time. Especially since he had cut back on working.

Roman only worked Raws and Smackdowns now, skipping the house show. He was usually home no later than Wednesday night, and he left no earlier than Saturday night.

He had made a complete turn around in his schedule for them.

He didn't deserve that comment.

"I'm sorry." she said quietly.

He was leaning against the wall as she said it.

"Don't be mad. At least don't leave."

He rolled his eyes, which she deserved. "I'm not leaving."

"I don't want them around your parents for a while." Changing the subject could only make things better. "Not until your parents and I get along."

"That's not fair to the kids. They love their grandparents."

"I know, but if you had seen how they were to me in front of the kids, you wouldn't want them around them either."

She tried wiping a small tear before he could see, but of course, he saw.

"What happened?"

"It's over and done with, Roman--"

"It's not over and done with if you're over here crying, Chase."

"I'm not crying." she sniffled and sucked it all back in.

She hated being a crier. She never was a crier until she met the one man who could make a cry at the drop of a dime.

"Yes, you are."

"I'm not anymore, okay? One tear doesn't mean I'm crying."

He had walked over to her, and she tried walking past him again, but he wouldn't let her.
