My gut feeling was telling me that things were still too different.
"You can't just sit at the window and ignore me, Chase."
I was mesmorized by anything that kept me from talking to Roman. Cars, birds, other people passing by, or anything else.
"What's the point of this if you're not going to talk?"
I hunched my shoulders.
"Are you saving your breath for our counseling?"
Yeah, he had agreed to the marriage counseling. Toni was the one to bring it up in front of him while she was over last week, and he said he'd be willing to do it if it helped us.
Fifteenth floor. Room 2B. Dr. Martin Guy.
We hadn't been called back yet for our session, so I was getting anxious.
"What do you think he'll ask us?" I could see out of the corner of my eye that he was looking at me. "Do you think we'll have homeowork like they do on TV?"
I bit my lip as a couple walked out of the room we were supposed to go in.
"I'll see you guys next week."
I assumed it was Dr. Guy. He looked taller on his website, but his face and everything else was the same.
"And you two must be Mr. and Mrs. Reigns, am I right?"
Roman stuck his hand for him to shake, "Yes, that's us."
"Well, come on in, the couch is warm and ready for you."
Warm? Ew.
I sat down on the end of the couch, resting there because the couch was comfortable. Roman sat down fairly close to me, pulling me over to him when he got himself situated.
"Hello, I'm Dr. Guy. We spoke briefly on the phone, but I wanted to introduce myself."
He had a bright smile, blue eyes, and frizzy blonde hair. If you saw him on the street, you'd never guess he was a marriage counselor.
"We have an hour here today, so let's get started." Roman cleared his throat and I felt him looking at me again. "I see a little tension...should we start with that?"
"We've been arguing a lot lately." he told him.
"About what?"
"Romantic things, other men, I mean, honestly, the list could go on and on."
"Let's start with romance. What's wrong in that department?"
"Chase thinks I'm not romantic enough. We had a charity auction, she went on three different dates, and she said they were better than anything I've ever done for her." he sighed and started staring at me, "Come on, you have to say something."
"You said it already." I adjusted myself on the couch, moving away from him a little bit. "I don't think you're romantic, boom, that's it."
"No, no, no, Chase, tell him why you think that."
"I've told him why. He doesn't try and it shows. Lately, it got a bit better, so I don't even think that it's a relevant problem for us anymore."
"I think it's very relevant." Roman explained, "You look to other men for the things you say I'm lacking."
"I don't look for it, Roman."
"Yeah, okay, because Randy just showed up at your doorstep and forced you to play video games with him until midnight."
"Is that what this is about?" I turned to him, "You're still on that?"
"You don't even do half that stuff with me."
