Phoebe's POV

Rebecca was sitting on her bed quietly. I have been working on getting her to vent out for the past half hour. There's honestly nothing more I can do besides wait for her to open that mouth. I know she's having a bit of trouble with this. I couldn't even get her to talk about this when Ed left last summer.

"I don't want to do anything tonight, Phoebe. Go have fun." She says.

"What the hell is your problem?" I ask. I hate getting angry with her, but she needs to figure this out.

"Because, I'm not proud of it, but I did some research and I read that he's with someone. I don't want to be around him if he's with someone." Rebecca says quietly.

"Ed?" I ask surprised.

"Yeah. Ed." She whispers.

"He was just asking about you. I'm sure it's rumors Rebecca. He wouldn't be asking about you if he was with a girl. You should know that." I explain.

"I just don't want what he wants. I don't want to wait. I don't want to be home alone. You may have thrown yourself in that boat, but I don't want to. I'm crazy about Ed, I am, but I'm not going to be left behind." She says.

"You don't know if Ed will just leave you behind." I say.

"And you don't know that Louis won't leave you behind." She retorts.

"Unbelievable." I mutter. My heart stings a little bit. Louis wouldn't just drop me.

"Well? I didn't take the chance last summer, and thank god I didn't. We just saw him for the first time a few weeks ago!" She points out.

"The only reason we haven't seen him is because of you. Why would he visit where he thinks he's not wanted?" I tell her.

"I-well..." She trails off.

"You may be good with a lot of things, but relationships is not one of them." I say finally.

"It's just not what I want." She explains with a sigh.

"Okay, how about you sleep on it for a little while-It's already ten-forty, we better get ready." I tell her and start to pull her up.

"Phoebe, I don't want to go anywhere. I want to stay here." She says.

"What if I...steal your phone." I say and snatch it off the bedside table. She doesn't look half bad. I mean she is wearing just jeans and a t-shirt, but I don't think Ed cares. I just have to get her over there. They've been all set for about ten minutes.

"Phoebe-"

"Oh, what's this? Text from your mum? Maybe I'll just call her." I say. Her mum really didn't like me that much and Rebecca runs towards me as I move out the door. I get across the hall, swing the door open for her, and they all yell surprise. She pauses for a second, looks at all of us and frowns.

"You losers. I didn't want to keep you in on New Year's Eve. I just wanted to be alone." She says.

"But we didn't want you to be alone, alright?" Ed speaks up.

"Yeah." She says quietly and smiles.

"So, we have pizza, a few packs of beer, one of which is all yours according to Louis, and even some fun party hats I bought off a vendor. So, you ready to party?" Harry asks her. She nods and gives everyone, even Ed, a tight hug.

We sit around the TV, watching the shows go on around the world. I'm sitting under Louis's arm, just enjoying the night. We've all been talking about the year, mainly Ed and glancing at each new place ring in the new year. They flick to New York every once and awhile to show the crowds going crazy. They still have a few hours. I see Harry staring at the screen one time and I smile sadly at him.

"Hey guys?" I ask for everyone's attention. They all look toward me.

"How about next year, regardless of who may move or fight, or anything, we make a pact to go to Times Square for New Year's Eve?" I offer.

"Yes." Harry says seconds later.

"I don't know, I'll still be a bit new in the building and-"

"Live a little." Ed cuts her off. She frowns at him before nodding.

"Fine I'm in." She says.

"So am I." Louis says.

"Yeah, definitely." Ed says.

"Then it's settled. Do you have a piece of paper Harry?" I ask.

"You can use the back of this envelope. It's blank." He says. I take it and write down the pact. It reads See you in NYC.

"Alright, now everyone sign it. We can't make Harry stay home next year." I joke even though he's the first one to sign it, even before me. I take it back after and both Louis and I sign. Next is Ed and then Rebecca.

"I'll keep this across the hall. Sound good?" I ask. Everyone nods. The risk is worth it.

"10!" The TV blares and catches our attention.

"9...8...7...6..."

"Countdown!" I yell. Everyone stands up and starts to shout along.

"4...3...2...1! Happy New Year!" We all yell and hear several other people shout around the building! I pull Louis close and kiss him. Harry wolf whistles at us and I laugh, ending the kiss. I look up and see everyone staring at the TV. For a few moments it's just Louis and I standing there, smiling at the TV together.

"Can we go to bed now? I have to work tomorrow." Rebecca says.

"Hey guys, I haven't showered since last year." Harry pipes in. We all seem to groan simultaneously.

"Okay, okay, I get it." He says.

"But I haven't slept since last year, maybe I should get to bed." He says. I see a pillow fly at him.

"Fine, I'll go to bed." He groans and closes his eyes. I look over and see Ed and Rebecca talking about something. That's...different. She laughs at what he said and his face lights up. He's as surprised as I am.

"I'm heading back." Rebecca says suddenly. She looks at me and Louis for a second and then smiles.

"See you later, okay?" She says. I nod as she leaves.

"I'm sorry Ed." I tell him.

"It's alright. She just doesn't feel the same way." He says quietly.

"No, it's just she's afraid she'll be left here and you won't come see her when you guys are together. She feels like she's going to be that typical 'girl left at home' if you guys do get together." I explain.

"The only reason I haven't been back is because of her. I figured she needed space. I was surprised to see you both at the Hobbit premiere, but I couldn't just leave you at that. I had to talk to her. I've missed her. She just doesn't get it. Being gone is hard, too. I'm not going to disappear as much this year, but she won't believe me." He says.

"I'm sorry." I say. I look up and see Louis staring sadly at Ed. My mind wonders about her snap at me before. What if I am left behind?
