Standing in front this lady, I held up the photo of my niece. From talking to Amaiya some more, she had told me where she was specifically.

Having some people outchea look into it fa me, I got official word that tha lady who helped her was back in town and I needed answers.

“No sir, sorry.” She shook her head before attempting to close the door on me.

Putting my foot to block, I was serious.

“Listen ma’am, this ma niece and I'm just tryna get some understanding bout a situation she finally revealed ta us.”

Sighing heavily, she nodded.

“I know her.”

“Can I come in so we can talk?”

“Sure.”

Letting me in, an older white man came down the stairs.

“Whatever ya selling, we ain't buying young man.”

Chuckling by his response, I just shook my head.

“Brock hush.” She fanned him off. “This is.” She paused.

“August.” I smile.”

“OK, and what does August want?” He stood there.

“Ignore his grumpy ass.” She turned to me. “Come with me.”

“Woman, I asked a question.”

“Brock go back upstairs please if you're going to be annoying like this.”

Mumbling, he went to the kitchen. Sitting there I laughed to myself.

“Don't worry about him.” She fanned me off. “So Amaiya? Is she doing OK?”

“You remembered her name?”

“How could I not?” She sighed. “What is it you would like to know?”

“Anything you can tell me bout what happened and them lah punks.”

“Well, the house that had the party is two blocks up. I remember distinctly hearing some commotion across the street. I was up because my granddaughter at the time had an ear infection and wasn't sleeping.”

“Oh OK.” I nodded.

“When I looked out, I saw her fighting with one boy, and she was doing good till the three others came. When I saw they pinned her to the ground and what was about to happen, I grabbed my husband’s gun and went out there.”

Amaiya didn't tell me all of that happened. All she said was a neighbor helped her.

“I let off some shots in the air before pointing it at them, which made them leave and that's when I approached and saw how beaten up she was. I came and woke my husband and he helped me bring her inside. She was so distraught. She didn't want to go to the police, the hospital, nothing. She just kept saying she wanted to go home. So we took her.” She shook her head.
