"So how are things love?"
"Tiring but good."
Sitting in the kitchen trying to put baby August to sleep, I yawned.
"He stays up at night huh?" My mother chuckled.
"Yeah. He doesn't cry or anything, he is just awake and I get too nervous to sleep."
"That was you." My mother laughed.
"And you."
Putting our attention on the doorway, my grandmother came in.
"Me?" My mother asked.
"Yes you. You would keep me up at night, just laying there cooing your life away as though you were speaking to someone."
"I didn't know that."
"That's exactly what this little one does." I tickled his chin.
"Y'all need to hurry up and baptise that child." My grandmother spoke.
"We will grandma."
"Mhm."
Not saying anything, I yawned again before looking down to see him staring up at me.
"Why you staring at me like your daddy?"
Tickling his chin, he smiled, showing his gum.
"Speaking of his daddy, where is August?"
"I'm not entirely sure but he said he had some business to take care of."
"Oh okay." My mother nodded.
"Oh!"
"This gotta be something if you're this excited."
"It is. I've been thinking about opening a dance school."
"Really?"
"Yeah and this is between us, but I think I might be retiring sooner than I planned."
"Really?" They both exclaimed.
"Yeah. Since he's been born, its been playing around in my mind. Like this is my second chance to be there, to actually be a mother."
"What are you talking about?"
"I've missed out on enough with Naima, i don't want to miss out with him too."
"We understand that Misty but I still think you can be you where dancing is concerned and still be an amazing mother. Naima is like the perfect child and you had a part to play in that." My mother spoke.
"Exactly. Every time she says something, it's always "my parents" taught me and not just one."
"I guess but I honestly want to open my own dance school too."
"Well you know you have our support." They hugged me.
"Thanks."
"Now."
Taking her great grandson from me, he smiled at her.
"You go get some rest. We'll see about him."
"Are you sure?"
"Clearly he isn't going to sleep Misty." My mother laughed.
"And you've yawned so much, I'm surprises your jaw hasn't locked yet." My grandma joked.
