Misty
“You know you don't have to come with me right?”
Looking over his shoulder, I sat on the bed in our hotel room and watched as he moved around.
“I ain't got anything else ta do.” He shrugged.
“You could spend time with Nai.”
Stopping what he was doing, he gave me his attention.
“Is thea a reason why yeen want me at ya dress rehearsal.”
“Yes there is.” I spoke honestly. “I'm eight months pregnant, you're going to have a lot to say and I honestly don't want to be on edge today.” I sighed.
Not saying anything, I then heard him laughing.
“I promise I won't say anything.”
“A promise is a comfort for a fool. I know you.” I shook my head.
“OK fine will I give you my word, I won't say anything.”
“Aug?”
“I'm serious babe. I know this is opening night and you need to be on point, so I'll just observe.”
“OK.” I exhaled.
Getting up, I went ahead and got showered. Time I came out, Aug had breakfast waiting for me. Smiling, I approached him as he sat eating and watching the TV. Kissing him, he just smiled.
“Babe they put peanuts in this.” I looked at my fruit parfait.
“They did?”
“Yes.” I showed him it.
“Aight, put it aside, I'a call them.”
Nodding, I went ahead eating my yogurt and melon. As I dressed, there was a constant knocking on the door.
“Ain't nobody hea!” Aug yelled.
“Quit playing dad!” Nai yelled back.
“I ain't ya daddy. Our old gardener is!”
“August!”
Sitting there, he continued to laugh as I opened the door.
“Momma you confess to him?” Nai asked, same time Aug turned to me.
“Shut up and get in here.” I pulled her in.
“What she talking bout Misty?”
“You shut up. You like to make your damn jokes and as soon as it goes left you get defensive.” I pushed him.
Nai came over and grabbed my grapes as she snickered.
“What do you want?” I asked her.
“Money please. I'm going out with Dajah and her brother and sister.”
“Aug give her some money.”
“I ain't her daddy.” He mumbled.
“Swear I can't stand you.” I huffed.
Walking over to the dresser, I got his wallet and took out some money, handing it to her.
“Don't spend all.”
“I won't.” She took it and got up. “Thank you momma. Thanks dad.” She kissed his cheek.
“Just be safe.”
