I've been trying to fall asleep for the past two hours, but my brain has just not been cooperating. It keeps whirring through everything I've done today. Between Scott going missing, Lydia seeing the Alpha, Derek being attacked by hunters, Deaton acting suspicious about the attacker being a mountain lion, parent/teacher conferences, and Mr. Argent proving he's a hunter by killing the mountain lion, I am exhausted, both mentally and physically. And yet, I can't fall asleep.
I sit up, pushing my hair out of my face. I wonder if Lydia even remembers what she saw. I wish she would've been in her right mind when we went and talked to her. What if she sobers up and remembers clearly that it was not a mountain lion and that it walked away on two legs?
What if she knows werewolves exist now and what if she finds out that Allison is a werewolf hunter?
"Ugh!" I grunt and lay back down forcefully. I cross my arms, staring at my dark ceiling.
What if now that Kate realizes that Derek doesn't know who the Alpha is, she actually kills him? What if she visits him again and he doesn't escape? I roll over, getting all tangled up in my blankets. Suddenly, I'm too hot. I kick them off. What if Deaton knows about the Alpha? Why would he be so certain that the attacker was a mountain lion? If he knows about werewolves, whose side is he on? Is he on the Alpha's side, covering for him? Or is he on our side, trying to find out who the Alpha is, but keep werewolves a secret from the hunters?
"Ugh!" I say again, louder. I pull the blankets back on. I'm not cooled off yet, but I need the comfort. I keep seeing the mountain lion laying on the ground, blood seeping from its bullet wound.
"Trouble sleeping?"
I cry out, hot fear washing over me, as I sit up so fast I get lightheaded. I narrow my eyes at the werewolf.
"What are you doing here?" I demand, watching Derek.
"I could hear you complaining from my house," he crosses his arms. I narrow my eyes even more.
"You could not," I state evenly.
"Fine. I came to ask you some questions," Derek admits.
"At ..." I grab my alarm clock and shine the bright numbers on my face. "Two a.m.?"
"I was waiting for Scott to fall asleep," Derek explains.
"Why?" I raise my eyebrows.
"Because I didn't want him to hear us."
"Alright. So, sit down and ask your secret questions," I say and gesture to the foot of my bed.
Derek obeys. I can see his uncomfortable expression through the little bit of light coming in through my window.
"What were you doing at my house earlier?" he asks me.
I cross my legs. "Stiles drove me so that ... well, I don't know what exactly I planned to do, but ..."
I stammer out my answer, trying to find a way to explain myself and keep my promise to Scott. I really need to stop making so many promises.
"But ...?" Derek raises his eyebrows.
"Kate was there," I state blankly. "I couldn't just do nothing."
"Yes, you could've."
I blink in surprise.
"You don't have super strength like Scott. You don't have his claws or his speed or his healing powers," the werewolf tells me. I furrow my eyebrows. "You can't do the same things he does."
"Well, I can try -"
"Please don't."
I look at Derek for a moment, my heart falling.
"Any more questions?" I ask, blinking back hot tears. I hope it's too dark for him to see how shiny my eyes are.
"How did you know Kate was there?" he demands.
"I just did," I reply and shrug. I bring my thumb to my mouth and start biting the edge of my nail nervously.
"You didn't just know," Derek says.
"Why are you acting like you know everything about me?" I
throw my arms down and slide off of my bed. I cross my bedroom and flip on the light. Derek's eyes glow bright blue for a moment as he squints at the sudden brightness.
"I know people like you - the kind of person who is powerless, but still throws themselves into any dangerous situation they can find," he tells me. He sounds angry.
"Powerless," I scoff. "Well, I'll have you know that I'm something supernatural too." When the confusion crosses his face, I smirk. "I'm psychic. I get visions of the future. That's how I knew Kate was at your house and why I went to make sure you were okay and I'm really not supposed to tell you that, so if you could keep quiet about the fact that you now know, it would be great!" I spit out that entire last sentence in one breath and it leaves me gasping for air. "I seriously need to make a list of who I can and can't tell what to," I mutter to myself and run my hands over my face. The werewolf on my bed doesn't say anything, so I peek at him through my fingers. "So, I've finally found a way to shut you up then," I retort. He rolls his eyes in response.
"What do you mean 'visions of the future'?" he asks.
"I see things before they happen," I explain. "I saw the bite marks on your sister's legs before I found out that she was supposedly 'attacked by an animal.' I get feelings about people I've just met too, like Allison, but ... I don't know."
"How long have you had the visions?" Derek stares at me.
"Since the night Scott got bit," I answer and reach up to scratch my eyebrow. "The same night the police started to look for your sister. The very first vision I had was of them."
"So, do you know who the Alpha is?"
"If I knew who the Alpha was, you would know too," I purse my lips and lean against my wall. "Now, do you have any more questions or can I go to sleep?"
"No, I can go," Derek stands up.
"I assume you didn't come in through the front door," I adjust the blankets on my bed. Before he can answer, I continue, "But you can leave through the front door. And next time, maybe knock or something?"
"Right," he huffs, heading out into the hallway. I roll my eyes at his retreating figure. As I lay down to go to sleep, I see someone drawing a shape on a foggy window. It just looks like a swirl.
"Ugh!" I cry again in frustration, flipping my pillow angrily. The other side isn't any cooler, so I throw it at my wall angrily and then just sit with my arms crossed, scowling.
