I trudge over to the bleachers and sit down. I don't have any homework to do, so I just watch the lacrosse players do their thing and wait for Scott to come back. I find myself wondering what Scott could be doing and lo and behold, as vision springs up over the bright sunlight.
"If you ask me – of course, nobody asks me – she made a big mistake. Ask me how I know that," Lydia talks to my brother.
"How?" Scott doesn't pick his eyes up.
"Because I know that you locked us in there to protect us," I see Lydia saying with her arms crossed. "Because I know when a guy risks his life for you, you should be grateful."
The vision skips some time and then I see Scott and Lydia. It takes a moment for my brain to process what I see. They're ... kissing. As the vision fades, I ball my hands up into fists.
First of all, it's one thing for my brother to be acting weird under the influence of the full moon and because of the breakup with Allison, but it's another entirely for Lydia to be going along with this. She's in a relationship with Jackson, even if she did like my brother.
Second of all, Lydia told me and Allison earlier that Scott locked us in that room and left us for dead and that it wasn't a mistake to break up with him. How was she going to say the exact opposite to my brother? Did she want Allison and Scott to break up all along? And how could Scott do that to Stiles? He was on a mission to see if Lydia liked Stiles. How did it go so wrong?
"Emerson?" Stiles sinks onto the bench next to me. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," I lied quickly.
"You've got this look on your face like you're really pissed off about something." Stiles watches me carefully.
"It's just my normal face, Stiles." I smile.
"No, it's not, Mer," Stiles says. His eyes jump up suddenly. "Hey, what happened?"
"What?" Scott asks, sitting down.
"What do you mean what?" Stiles rushes out. "Did you ask her?"
"Stiles," I say quietly. I can barely hear myself and I don't think Stiles heard me.
"Did she say anything? Did she say she liked me? Did she imply she liked me?" I can hear the excitement in Stiles' voice. My heart shatters inside my chest.
"Yeah," Scott says, strapping on his lacrosse gloves. "Yeah, she likes you. In fact, she's totally into you."
A huge grin spreads across Stiles' face. I can see a tiny smirk appear on Scott's lips. My heart pounds in my ears and I turn to scowl at Scott, suddenly furious.
"You're a terrible person, you know that?" I seethe, quiet enough that Stiles can't hear. I know Scott can hear me by the way his posture shifts. "I know what you did."
I stand up and start walking away from the lacrosse field.
"Wait – Mer, where are you going? Aren't you happy for me?" Stiles asks. "This is turning out to be a great day!"
"Yeah, I'm happy for you, Stiles," I say sadly. "I'll see you after practice."
