It took about five minutes for Stiles' dad to get upstairs and let us out of the chemistry lab. Allison, Jackson, and Lydia leave first, escorted out by an officer. Scott, Stiles, and I leave with Mr. Stilinski.

"You're sure it was Derek Hale?" he asks us as we're walking out of the school.

"Yes," Scott answers. I look around the parking lot, almost expecting Derek to be standing there perfectly fine. Where is his body now anyway?

"I saw him too," Stiles chimes in. Mr. Stilinski looks at me.

"And you?" he asks.

"I – I never saw him," I stutter out. When his dad turns back around, Stiles looks at me. I shrug defensively.

"What about the janitor?" Scott inquires.

"We're still looking," Mr. Stilinski tells him.

"Did you check under the bleachers? Under them?" asks Scott.

"Yeah, Scott, we looked," Stiles' dad assures him. "We pulled them out just like you asked. There's nothing."

"Did you look in the parking lot?" I ask. "Like outside of the school?"

"There's no body outside the school," Mr. Stilinski tells me.

"I'm not making this up," Scott argues.

"I know. I believe you," Sheriff Stilinski tells him. "I do."

"No, you don't," Scott states blankly, stopping. "You have this look like you feel bad for me. Like you wanna believe me, but I know you don't."

Stiles leans against the railing and Scott sighs. I look down at my feet and suddenly realize that I'm only wearing socks. My shoes are still by the stairwell.

"Listen ..." Mr. Stilinski says. "We're gonna search this whole school -" He looks at me. "- inside and out – and we're gonna find him, okay? I promise."

A deputy calls his name and he turns his head.

"Stay. All of you," he commands as he turns to walk away.

"You were right, Em," Stiles says when his dad leaves. "We survived. You know? We outlasted the Alpha. It's still good, right? Being alive?"

"When we were in the chemistry room, he walked right by us," Scott says soberly. "You don't think it heard us? You don't think it knew exactly where we were?"

"Well, then how come we're still alive?" Stiles asks.

"I told you." I cross my arms. "The Alpha didn't want to hurt us. He had no intention of ever killing us. Don't get me wrong, he wanted us dead, but he didn't want to kill us."

"It wants me in his pack, but I think first, I have to get rid of my old pack," explains Scott.

"What do you mean? What old pack?" Stiles sounds confused.

"Us," I say.

"Allison, Jackson, Lydia, you guys." Scott nods in agreeance with me.

"The Alpha doesn't want to kill us," Stiles comprehends.

Scott turns away from us. "He wants me to do it."

Stiles and I exchange a glance.

"And that's not even the worst part," Scott continues.

"How in holy hell is that not the worst part, Scott?" Stiles asks.

"Derek's dead," I input. "He has no teacher anymore. He has to fight the Alpha alone."

"Not even that," Scott corrects. "When he made me shift, I wanted to do it. I wanted to kill you. All of you."

I'm about to say something, but Scott sees something and starts walking away. I look over, expecting to see Allison or something, but instead I see Deaton sitting on the back of the ambulance. I walk over with Scott.

"There you two are," Deaton says.

"How – How did you ...?" Scott starts to stammer.

"Get out?" Deaton finishes. "Not easily. And from what they tell me, I'm alive because of you. I think you owe you a raise."

Deaton laughs and I study his face. I wonder if he could be the Alpha. The Alpha spared my life in the hallway. Maybe it wasn't just because he wanted Scott to kill me? Maybe it was because it was my boss, someone who knew me.

Where else could Deaton have gone during that entire time the Alpha was chasing us? How could he have escaped with neither me nor Derek noticing? And for that matter, where is Derek's body?

"Guys," Sheriff Stilinski says, abruptly appearing behind us. "Come on. Let's let the EMT's do their job. You can talk to him later."

He grabs Stiles' arm and pulls him away from the ambulance. I follow him, but Scott takes off in another direction – this time towards Allison.

Mr. Stilinski takes us back to the stairs where he left us originally and then leaves again.

"Do you still think Deaton is the Alpha?" I ask Stiles. I sit down on the concrete steps and he sits next to me.

"He did just disappear and reappear pretty conveniently," Stiles says. I lay back on the stairs and cover my face.

"Where else could the Alpha have gone?" I ask. "The police were right here. I think they would've seen a giant, red-eyed beast wandering away from the high school."

"I don't know, Mer," Stiles sighs.

"I get the feeling that we don't know anything." I look around the dark parking lot, expecting to see two red lights in every shadow.
