"Where are you parked?" Jackson asks as we come out of the woods.

"Parked?" I repeat. "We didn't drive here, Jackson. Where are you parked?"

Jackson looks at Scott's blood, and I see the fear in his eyes.

"My car?" he asks.

"You're seriously worried about ruining your seats right now?" I demand loudly, not nearly as angry as I sound.

"What - No, I - Well, I mean - It's just, it's a nice car, and -"

He never gets to finish his justification, because we both jump and stop when we see a dark figure standing in the road. I don't know what to say, so I just grip Scott tighter and stand still.

"Hey! We need help!" Jackson calls to the person.

"Shh!" I hiss at him.

"We do! We need help." Jackson protests quietly.

"Well who is that?" I ask. "Hmm? You can't just ask random people on the road in the middle of the night for help."

What I didn't notice was, while I was arguing with Jackson, the figure had approached and already revealed its identity. Deaton takes Scott from us, lifting him easily.

He looks at me. "Do you trust me?"

I hesitate. Do I? My instincts say yes. "Yes."

"Good. Then take him -" He ticks his chin at Jackson. "- home and I'll handle Scott."

I look at my brother. I do trust Deaton. I can feel it. So why does it feel wrong to leave him? Do I not really trust Deaton?

Deaton picks up on my reluctance. "You need to leave, Emerson, and get this young man home. Can you do that?"

"Yes," I say again. I grab Jackson and pull him away from Deaton before I can change my mind.

"How are you about to give me the stranger danger speech and then let someone take Scott? Who was that?" Jackson asks me, looking over his shoulder.

"That's not a stranger. That's our boss, and he's going to the same place we were headed," I explain carefully.

"Your boss? Werewolves have bosses? Like a leader of the pack?" Jackson looks at me with wide eyes.

"No, you dumbass! Our boss. At the animal clinic." He still doesn't seem to be getting it. "Scott and I work there! It's a job, Jackson!" I throw my arms up, exasperated.

"How is your vet boss going to help Scott?" Jackson asks me. I'm starting to get frustrated with all his questions.

"I don't know, Jackson! Okay? I don't get to know anything until I've already done it! I don't know everything until someone else explains to me how my actions and visions perfectly lined up with what was needed, and right now, all I know is I have to go get you home, so if you could please just find your car and leave, it would be great!"

Jackson stops walking to stare at me. "What do you mean?"

I stare at him, out of breath. I want to scream and yell at him again, but I've already done that. He must've caught on to that because he rephrases his question.

"What you mean 'visions' and not knowing until it's done?"

"I can see the future. It just doesn't always make sense, and it's not as helpful as it sounds. Now, anymore questions or can you go?" I'm growing more and more irritated.

"Uh, yeah, a lot more questions," Jackson says.

"But do they need to be answered right now?" I ask.

Jackson looks at me for a moment. "I guess not."

"Cool. Now go to your car," I say forcefully.

"Okay, okay. I'm going." Jackson starts walking again. He stays silent the entire way back. As soon as he unlocks his car, I turn to leave. "Wait - where are you going?"

"Uh, probably home."

Probably.
