“No, that’s not it,” He grabbed my finger and put it on another string. “Wrong note. It’s the G.”

I looked up at him, his brown hair messier that morning. He wiped the back of his hand across his mouth after he took a bite of a cheese bread I bought earlier. The beardless cheeks and chin scarcely needed a razor. His skin was white, mottled and peeling from exposure to the sun. The eyes that stared back at me were a deep ocean blue. He looked as though he might be about to speak- and he did. “Can’t get enough of my face?”

I laughed, waving him off and looked back at the guitar I was holding. But I couldn’t concentrate. I put his guitar away and moved towards him, rested my head on his shoulders. “Are you okay?” I ran my fingers across his face, touching his jaw. Then I took his hand and ran my fingers along the white bandage wrapped around his knuckles. "What happened?"

“I’m fine,” he said. "And nothing."

“No,” I shifted my seat, now facing him. “Is everything okay?”

He looked away, avoiding my gaze. I knew he wasn’t okay. He was miserable. And he didn’t want to let me know. Those eyes showed me everything he kept from me. So I let my head rested on his chest, listening to his beating heart. The only thing that would make him tell me something, is time. So that I gave him.

“My mom wanted me to come with her,” He said, stroking my hair lightly. “Said she got better now.”

“How did she found you?” I asked.

“I don’t know,” He took a deep breath. "I was with Chester the other night, and she just.. came out of nowhere."

“Do you want to go with her?”

Maybe he wanted to, maybe he didn’t - I couldn’t tell; he avoided my gaze. “Do you want to?”

“No,” He shook his head. “No I don’t.”

I rested my head back on his shoulders. “But she’s your mom. Maybe she got better now, don’t you think?”

“I don’t know,” he muttered under his breath. “I just couldn’t face her right now.”

I had so much things to ask, but I knew Alex would not appreciate it at the time, so I buried all the question in my mind and made a mental note to ask him later when I got the chance. The next thing I knew, I woke up with a gasp and looked around me while breathing heavily. Alex fell asleep at the same spot we were in; leaving me feeling guilty for doing so. “Alex? Let’s get out.” I shook his arms softly and he opened his eyes. “I’m sorry. I fell asleep.”
