I was awakened the next morning by the sound of footsteps approaching the bed. I was fully awake when the nurse that talked to me last night was there again, this time she was holding a tray of what seemed like a bunch of medicines and a water. She smiled when she saw me and put the tray onto the nightstand.

“You know,” she said, without looking up at me. “You should go home, have a rest, take a shower or something. You look like you need it.”

I wasn’t even sure if she was being sarcastic or just telling me truth. I decided to ignore it both. Besides, I knew I needed a bath, but there was no way I would leave Alex on his own. At least not until he was fully awake. “Uh, thanks. But I think I’ll just.. wait here.”

She nodded her head and looked up. “That’s really not a problem at all, but I’m afraid you’ll have to be outside for at least an hour. We’ll be looking after him in the meantime.”

“Oh,” I muttered, glancing over his body on the bed. I looked back at the nurse and asked, “May I know what happened to him?”

“Insomnia,” she said, writing something down her note. “He’s been lacking a dangerous amount of sleep and his blood pressure is high the last time we checked.”

I pursed my lips and looked at him one last time. I walked towards Alex- who was still unconscious- and pecked a kiss on his forehead and left the room reluctantly.

I sucked in the fresh air as soon as I stepped outside and walked down the hallway, planning on grabbing some food from the cafeteria. Plus I wanted to make a call to Yuri to let her know about Alex. I praised quietly at the sight of the half-empty cafe. That only meant I didn’t have to deal with humans for a little while. Buying a cheese bread and a mineral water from the counter, I made my way towards an empty table near the windows. Suddenly I felt like deja-vu. I remembered the first time Alex went into the hospital after he got into the accident. How it all started.

Letting my thoughts flew away, I grabbed my phone, switched it on and dialled Yuri’s number without taking a single glance towards the thousand of notifications I got in my box presumably from my friends and family. It didn’t take long for Yuri to pick up the call and I told her everything and asked her to come. She agreed straight away.

“So what are you going to do now?” Chester asked, and my mind started wandering far. I honestly didn’t know what I was gonna do at all.

Yuri came half an hour later, meeting me in the cafeteria with Chester, Martin and Kayla- whom I refused to look at because I knew she was going to give me her uncalled smirk that I would not appreciate especially when the only thing I had in my mind was Alex. “I don’t know, Ches. I guess I’m just gonna stay here and wait until the they let me in.”

“You’re going to do that?” Yuri asked, her eyebrows furrowed.

“Well, what else am I going to do? I can’t leave him here alone,” I explained.

Silence crashed upon all of us and neither of us spoke. We’d all lost in our own thoughts; at least I did.

“Cam,” Yuri broke down the silence after a while. “Why don’t you sleepover in my apartment? And if you wanna visit Alex, then you can go whenever you like.”

When I didn’t answer because I had doubt with her plan, Martin spoke. “That’d be better. You can’t just sleep around here, it’s dangerous. Plus, people know who you are, you know.”
