The lines of sunrays that shot for my eyelids from the windows awaked me. I carefully got up from the bed, trying not to wake him up. Walking barefoot with slippers in my hands, I went straight towards the bathroom. I felt eyes staring at me while I walked but it didn’t even bother me anymore. In the bathroom, I took a quick shower and changed.

After that, I dropped by the cafeteria and bought a few things. Alex had awakened by the time I reached his room. “Morning,” I greeted, placing the plastic bag onto the nightstand. “Do you want to take a shower? I got your t shirt and a jeans so you can change.”

“You’re still here?” He muttered.

I took a deep breath, put a smile and nodded my head. “I’m not going anywhere.”

I put the food I bought down on the stand and started opening the plastic. I felt his eyes on me as I ripped open the food but I ignored it. “I bought you garlic bread and mushroom soup.”

I pulled them out of the plastic bag and sat in front of Alex on the bed. I dipped the plastic spoon into the mushroom soup before I held it in front of him. “Open your mouth.”

It took him a few seconds to actually opened his mouth, reluctantly at that. I smiled. “That wasn’t so bad, was it?”

He just shook his head and I grinned sheepishly. We sat there in silence as I fed him. I had so many things to ask but we were too comfortable with the warmth to start talking and ruined the moment for both of us.

So by the time he finished the soup, I put the bowl away and lay my body on the bed next to him. Once again we were embraced in silence. I didn’t know what to say, didn’t even know where to start. All I knew was that we laid there, surrounded by our silent thoughts like there were going to be no tomorrow. Like there were going to be no more moments like this.

“Alex.. “ I mumbled under my breath, a small lump forming in my throat.

“Hmm?”

“What are you thinking?”

For a moment the only sounds I heard was the beating of our heart. Then he spoke, “Everything.”

“Like what?” I asked.

He shifted his body and ran his fingers through my hair. “The art festival.”

“What about it?” I knew what he was going to answer, but I decided to play dumb in hope for him to change whatever he was thinking. Clearly it didn’t work.

“You should go,” he said. “You’ve bought everything for the night and it’d be a waste if you don’t wanna go.”

I shook my head lightly and looked at the clock on the wall. “Nah, I’m not going.”

“Camila..”

“Alex, stop,” I got up from the bed and sat right in front of him. “You know I’m not leaving you alone.”

He let out a frustrated sigh and threw his hands in the air. “Look, I’m fine. I’m not dead. It really is not necessary for you to stay with me like I’m a frickin baby.”

I gulped down the lump that started forming in my throat and looked helplessly at him. He grabbed my hand and put them in his. I looked down.

“Camila, I appreciate everything that you’ve done for me but please, please,” He pleaded. “Please don’t do this to yourself. I can take care of myself just fine. When did you sign up to be with me all the time that you can’t have a break and enjoy your time?”
