Chapter 15

Percy

Nico and I sat together at lunch, a different situation than yesterday.

Our fingers were intertwined again and I was holding our hands up to my mouth, pressing my lips against his small, pale hand.

He looked up at me, once in while, adoration in his eyes.

How did I get him?

I started leaning down to kiss him, for probably the hundredth time today, when he tensed up.

"Aw, the fag has a boyfriend."

Nico pulled away from my arms.

I turned to the people calling him that terrible name.

"Don't call him t-"

Nico cut me off.

"I got this, Percy."

He gave me a weak smile.

The two boys cracked their knuckles.

Nico stood up and all three of them started walking.

I started following them, but a hand stopped me at the door.

I looked down at the skinny girl who had her hand on my chest.

"Nothing's gonna happen. He'll be fine." She said in a musical voice.

She wasn't looking at me, but at her nails.

She had long, straight, waist length, honey brown hair.

Her face was very pale, almost as pale as Nico's.

Nico

"How do you know?"

She looked up at me and turned her head to the side.

"I don't."

Well, that's reassuring

She stuck out her hand.

"Calypso"

I looked down at it and shook it slowly.

"Percy."

She smiled and that was pretty

Calypso turned to look out the door and her smile faded.

The two guys were back, but no Nico.

I started panicking and ran out the cafeteria.

Where are you, Nico?

I checked the bathroom, but there was no one there.

Maybe in music class?

I stuck my head in and saw him.

He was seated at the white piano in the back of the room.

His fingers were on the keys, not pressing down.

I walked into the room, but he didn't see me.

"You okay?"

His head shot up and his eyes looked blotchy. "Oh.. Hey.."

Nico's voice sounded dull and lifeless.

It broke my heart to see him like that.

I sat down next to him and he leaned against me.

I wrapped my arms around him and he sighed.

"Nico, what really happened?"

I felt him start to tremble and held him closer.

"Those guys... They used to be really close to Bianca and I. When we started middle school, one of them decided to ask me out, as a joke. I didn't know it was a joke, and I kinda had a crush on him. I said yes, and he was shocked, I suppose. I mean, we had grown up together. I thought he would accept me. But I was wrong. He told everyone at school, but since no one really knew what happened, no one believed him. I still got teased by other people, but it was never as bad as Will and Josh."
