Chapter 20

Nico

When I woke up from my little nap, Percy was still asleep and his mom was standing in the door, watching us.

I sat up and rubbed my tired eyes.

She cleared her throat and I looked up at her.

"Nico, can I speak with you?"

I swallowed hard and nodded.

She left the doorway and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.

What could she want to talk about?

I pulled Percy's arms off of me and got up.

He groaned and rolled over.

I smiled at him and got up.

Percy's mom was sitting at the table and she had a plate of cookies.

"Sit down, Nico."

I sat down across from her and she pushed the plate towards me.

"Fresh baked."

I took a sugar cookie and nibbled on it.

Sally let out a deep breath.

"Look, Nico. Percy is my only son. He's been my entire life. When his father died, a part of both of us died. Percy's not as strong as he looks and I need you to be strong when he can't be. Can you promise me that he'll be happy with you?"

I looked up at her.

"I swear that I'll do whatever it takes to make him happy."

She smiled at me and as she opened her mouth, I heard Percy's voice calling my name.

She shook her head and waved me off.

I grabbed another cookie and ran upstairs.

Percy was on the floor.

"Uh.. You okay there, Perce?"

He stood up quickly and pulled me into his arms.

I almost dropped the cookie, but continued to nibble as he embraced me.

When Percy pulled away, I was halfway through the cookie.

"Wow, really?"

I shrugged.

"Your mom bakes amazing cookies."

He smiled and pulled me back to the bed.

I snuggled into his side and he gave squeezed me.

"What did my mom say?"

I giggled, as his fingers were drawing circles around my side.

"Just the usual mom to son's boyfriend talk."

He tilted my head up and kissed me.

We kiss a lot.

When Percy pulled back, he kissed my temple and stood up.

"Percyyyy!"

He turned to me and grinned.

"Yeah, Neeks?"

I groaned and threw my shoe at him.

He pouted and caught it.

When his mom came into the room, Percy was hiding in the bathroom, as I had been chasing him around with my other shoe.

She entered the room, a sad expression on her face.

"Is Percy in here?"

I pointed to the bathroom door.

Percy peeked out.

"Yeah, Mom?"

"I think you need to see something."

Percy came out of the bathroom and looked at his mom.

"Okay.."

He followed his mom to the living room.

I stayed in his room for a couple minutes before Percy came back inside his room.

"You coming?"

I nodded and followed him out.

He intertwined our fingers and pulled me.

There was a guy sitting on the couch.

Percy sat down too, and his mom shifted uncomfortably.

"Percy, this is Tyson. Your... Uh... Half brother..."

Oh shit.
