Act I

   Tiny flower, Daughter dear,

why don't you stay a while?

For when you are gone all day,

I really miss your smile.

What couldn't I teach you here at home,

that you would learn in school?

   You're a clever child,

and I'm certainly no fool.

   Mother Dearest,

I don't really want to leave my friends,

but if you tell me to sway

it seems that I must bend.

Act II

   Mother Dearest, Autumn Wind,

I'm afraid I still don't understand,

why it is that I must

all-a-ways obey your hand.

   Daughter Dear,

understand you might not,

   but obey you surely will.

Though I do not relish the fights we've fought.

Act III

   Mother Dearest,

I think I finally see

why you asked me to stay here.

For leaving you wouldn't make me happy.

   Tiny flower, Little girl,

who has been stuffing your head with lies?

I never taught you that institutions

were something to despise.

   Mother Dearest, Beautiful guide,

I am able to draw

   my own conclusions.

But they may yet have flaws.

Act IV

   Tiny flower, Only friend,

please promise me

   that you'll never leave,

and my little girl you'll always be.

   Mother Dearest, Willow tree,

I will stay close for as long as you allow.

But I can make no promises,

for you will make no vow.

Act V

   Daughter Dear, Relentless dreamer,

why do you make me cry?

You say you don't want higher education,

and at home you barely try.

   You're spewing nonsense!

You have so little knowledge.

You are a fool if you think

you can make it without college.

   Mother Dearest,

I knew your moods were like Kentucky springs.

Hot and cold, rain then shine -

that's how your moods swing.

If I am such a lost cause,

and my brains so small,

then why would you ever bother

teaching me at all?

   Mother Dearest,

you have roses of every tint.

You might see a large bouquet,

all I see are my replacements.

   It's funny to remember

why you wanted me home more.

You're trying to send me off,

now that you don't want me anymore.

Act VI

   Mother Dearest,

I would sail the seven seas,

if I thought that it would cause you

to finally believe.

   That your "shying Violet"

is stronger than you think.

And I'll spend my whole life trying to prove it,

wether I swim or sink.
