She blew in like the breeze she was trying to escape
Her head crowned in cheap sunglasses
and loose curls
And instead of 'hello'
I almost said
"I love you"

She looked at me
at the train
and back again
and before I knew to stop her
she was running
When she got there she turned back
and held out her hand,
expectantly.
And without another thought I was beside her
And with a breathless laugh I almost said
"Follow me
like I'd follow you
and I promise
wherever you go
I'll be there too."

She slammed the door behind her
still laughing
still soaked and dripping
in my rain-coat
And I almost said
"Kiss me  -
or don't.
Just let me know you need me
and I'll never let you go."

She asked me
to take a picture before we left
of her and the sand and the sea
She looked at me
then away
She almost looked more beautiful through a lense.
And I almost said
"Marry me.
Today,
in a dime-store dress,
and then tomorrow
I'd have more than a memory,
I'd have you.

"Marry me.
There's already something blue in your eyes
We can have a scavenger hunt for the rest.
Marry me in a dime-store dress."
