Christmas Roses

You can see him walking down her street

Smile on his lips,

And wings on his feet.

He's got hope in his heart

And his heart on his sleeve.

A year ago is when they met

A year from now is when they'll wed

And he's got flowers white and red

A dozen Christmas roses.

He marches up to her door

Like he's done

A hundred times before

But something's different,

This time there's more.

It's the day he first kissed her -

The day he first missed her.

And I guess he supposes

It'll be the day he proposes

With a dozen Christmas roses.

He knocks,

And then he calls.

The wind howls

And the snow falls.

And she just watches

Through it all.

She left him with

Christmas roses in his hand

Christmas roses, and a wedding band

She threw away

perfect love and perfect plans

And a dozen Christmas roses.

Finally he leaves,

She watches him go.

She's got nothing left

But the view from her window,

Memories,

New-fallen tears,

And new-fallen snow.

She left him with

Christmas roses in his hand

Christmas roses and a wedding band

I threw away

perfect love and perfect plans -

And a dozen

Christmas roses.
