I know not who I write this for,
But I am sure that on some distant shore,
Lies a man of whom no tales tell -
Who fought and fought very well.
I do not know his battle cry.
I do not know who he fought or why.
But of all the men who have lived on earth,
Of all the women who've been and given birth,
Somewhere in an unmarked grave
Lies a warrior both bold and brave.
He might've made no difference for you or me,
But he died setting someone free.
So while he remains unsung,
His banner never even hung -
That man whose name no one knows?
I assure you he is my hero.
