Before You, We had No One

Missing!

-Mon El's POV-

"Daddy!" A high pitched voice screams from the room next door.
"What?" I yell back.
"Dress is missing!" Bryn yells as she runs into the living room with a look of panic spread across her face.
"What do you mean it's missing?" I ask as I put down my screwdriver.
"I can't find it" Bryn explains frantically as she throws her hands up in the air in frustration.
"Where you put it, last Princess?" I ask as I grab one of her hands and I pull her closer to me.
"Mommy put it on my bed but it's gone," she says sadly.
"Okay, have you moved it anywhere else since last night?" I ask.
"No Daddy!" Bryn says angrily as she starts to become more and more frustrated by the second.
"Okay, okay calm down," I tell her as I place my hands on her shoulders.
"Have you looked in between your bags of new clothes?".
"Yes Daddy," Bryn says sadly.
"Let's search every room of the house, okay, just in case it was moved without us knowing" I suggest as I stand up and we walk together into the bathroom.
"Daddy, you look up there are I will look in here," Bryn says bossily as she points to the bath and sink.
"Okay Princess" I chuckle.
We lean over the side of the bathtub and under the toilet and in the cupboards, everywhere that could have hidden the dress but it wasn't found.
"Okay let's try your room again," I tell Bryn as we leave the bathroom and walk down the corridor and into her room.
We search under her noisy, makeshift bed, under and inside the gazillion bags that are covering the entirety of her floor and under her duvet but nothing was uncovered.
"Let's try Mommy and Daddy's room," I tell her next as she walks ahead with heavy feet into our room.
We search under the bed, under the duvet, under the travel cot, inside the cupboard and draws and under them. We look under the rug and in our bedside tables, in between Kara's clothes on her rack and in amongst Isaac's small pile of clothes but yet again... Nothing.
"Daddy," Bryn says disappointedly.
"Yes, Princess?" I ask.
"We are not going to find my dress" she states sadly as a stray tear slips down her face.
"Hey Princess," I say as I place my hands on either side of her face and I use my thumb to wipe away her tear. "We will find your dress. It's got to be here somewhere because it can't just walk off by itself can it because it has no legs" I say with a small smile.
"That's silly" Bryn giggles as her tears stop flowing and her face light up again.
"Remember, we still have one more room to check," I explain as we walk into the living room.
"Okay so I will search in the kitchen and you search in the living room and we will see who is faster," I tell her.
"Okay, Daddy" She giggles as she runs towards the TV and searches behind it.
"Hey that's not fair, you got a head start" I laugh as walk towards the kitchen and start looking in the cupboards and in the fridge.
After about 3 minutes of searching, Bryn runs up to me and pokes me in the back.
"Daddy you are losing" she giggles as she runs back to the sofa and starts to pull off all the cushions onto the floor as she searches behind them.
"Okay, whatever you say Princess" I chuckle in return.
As I searched in one of the cupboards, I see a plastic bag with a very familiar logo on it.
It was the dress.
As soon as I saw it, I had a flashback to about an hour ago.

__________ Flashback __________

Winn and I were playing a shooting game that he had brought over while Kara and Alex were unpacking bags and looking after the kids.
I was thrashing Winn and it was making him so frustrated it was funny. You could almost see the steam coming out of his ears.
I think he was very glad when Kara called me into Bryn's bedroom.
"What is it, babe?" I asked as I watched Bryn's mouth water over her new clothes.
"Can you grab some baby food out of the cupboard for Isaac so that Alex can feed him?" Kara asked.
"What's the magic word, Mommy?" I mocked.
"Please..." she chuckled.
"Of course babe, since you insist" I chuckle.
"Wait," Kara says abruptly.
"What?" I ask.
"Can you take Bryn's dress so that it doesn't get mixed up in all these bags?" She asks.
"Okay" I reply as I take the bag and place a kiss on her lips before walking into the kitchen.
I open the cupboard and grab a tin but it is of beans, not baby food so I place the contents inside both if my hands into the cupboard and I  grab another tin.

"Daddy, my dress!" Bryn exclaims joyfully as she runs towards me.
"Yes, baby it is" I reply with a worried look as I pass her the dress and she runs into her room to get changed.
Not minutes later I hear someone scream my name from her bedroom.
I quickly walk in to see what's going on to find Kara and Alex sitting on the floor and Bryn standing in front of the door with her face red and all scrunched up.
"Daddy you had my dress!" she screamed.
"Yes, but I didn't know I had put it there Princess so it is not my fault" I reply.
"Yes it is! " she replies angrily as she storms past me.
"Oops..."
